A wedding for 700 guests isn't a wedding at all.....it's called a fundraiser.

Khalstead.....I think you may be right...70 guests makes more sense.

Hopefully that's what the OP meant....where is the OP anyway? icon_confused.gif

Its called greed! she is so "I'm going to have all these peeps at my wedding and get tons of gifts" then they have a cash bar no food and sheet cake from walmart. Some people will never get it! icon_rolleyes.gif

If the OP didn't mean 70, then it sounds to me like the bride is hoping to spend $300 on ingredients for a cake to serve 700, hoping that as she is a co-worker of the decorators sister, if I read that right, she will do it out of some sense of matey-potatey love or something. That if she put it out there "Boo-hoo, I only have 300 but I'm soooo popular and important that I must invite 700 people" that the OP will say "Awww, ok". Surely that's the only way someone would think it could be managed. Surely.

You know, if I were invited to a wedding like this, I would go and take a covered dish and put in my card...and card ONLY...."I wish you the best and hope you enjoyed my gift of the covered dish of deviled eggs".

I never realized, until I did cakes, that there were so many self-centered people out in the world.

Tell her you know how she can get cake for 700 for only $300...go to the Dollar Store, buy cake mix and frosting and make the cakes herself...she'd only have to make 44 2-layer 8 inch cakes! Should be a snap for her and it would only cost $6 per cake! Even having to buy a few 8 inch round pan sets it would take to make these she would be under her $300 budget....but just barely!

I, too, have had it with these people who think they can get something for nothing. I have a "friend" who's daughter is having a quickie marriage this weekend. I barely know the daughter but on our last meeting a couple of years ago she mentioned that "someday" when she got married I just HAD to do her cake.

So her mom calls me MONDAY afternoon for a two tiered wedding cake to feed 25 for her to pick up FRIDAY so they could drive down to LA with it.

Naturally she wanted fondant but balked when I said that it was too short of a time frame and since they were working on a budget that fondant was much more expensive, so she settled for buttercream but wanted tons of decorations and was truly startled she couldn't get that on this short of notice.

I pointed out I had an anniversary cake AND a major 3D car cake due this week so I'd really only have one day to work on this so there was just so much I could do...BUT I would only charge her $50 and I would box it up for a safe journey to LA so it would arrive in one piece.

Later she called me back saying that they had decided to go with cupcakes cause there was a store nearby that she could get the cupcakes for only $38.

Now the devil on my shoulder is thinking that she wanted a full blown Cat's Cakes creation as a wedding gift from us to her daughter but the angel on my shoulder is trying to give her a break thinking that driving all the way to LA with a cake on her lap ended up being just too big a deal so she backed out that way.

But I can't shake the something for nothing thing...I wouldn't even consider doing a wedding cake on 4 days notice for anyone but a friend or family member much less given that good a deal on it AND boxed it for travel for that price and yet, somehow I'm thinking that was just not enough. SIGH.

Who is it around here that signs their posts with I hate people? I'm beginning to understand! LOL!

Just think, it would be so good for her business. That's 700 potential customers that would get to experience this gorgeous cake. It's hard to advertise for that many people for $300. She should jump right on this awesome opportunity......NOT!

Admit it. I had you going there, didn't I? icon_biggrin.gif

What I love about this idea is she'd never fathom just the baking time it would take. Assume she can get only two of the 8" rounds in her oven at one time. 30 minutes per batch, that's 44 baking batches or 22 hours of non-stop oven time. 22 hours straight of standing there and doing nothing but putting pans in and taking pans out. Turn on the oven at noon and not turn it off until 10:00 am the next day! icon_lol.gif

NOt counting the mixing, PAN WASHING! icon_eek.gif , icing (what do ya think .... 92 cans of off brand icing? icon_lol.gif ), etc etc.

Yeah ... PLEASE talk her into a DIY cake so we can have a good laugh!!

You guys just have me rolling! I hope this is a joke or misunderstanding because I can't imagine anyone, bride included, would think this is possible.
