I got in my tiny baby mold and when I take out my gum paste the back end is always mis-figured. At first I thought, looking at the inside of the mold that maybe I got a lemon; then I began to think it could be the user....help!
I'm tired of re-shaping his/her tiny backside every time or is this normal for this mold. Any help is greatly appreciated and you'll be put on a very tall cake diva pedestal...LOL!
Thanks for reading Annie09

are you refrigerating the mold before attempting removal? I think that helps.

I do put it in the freezer & have tried it in the fridge & I have the same problem. I always have to make a "diaper" for the little one. I wonder about my mold too but since they are non-returnable, looks like I'm stuck.

Are you making sure the gumpaste is nice and smooth before you smoosh it into the mold?

I only tried mine once and it turned out just fine so if you put in smooth gumpaste, and then freeze for about 30 minutes, and then remove, and its still messed up.... I'd probably exchange the mold.

I just got a new baby too! I've only made one, but my backside came out just perfect. I'd do what the pp said and make sure the fondant/ gumpaste is smooth and retry. If not, exchange it!

I do all that as well. But I ordered it from First Impressions & there are no returns.

It sounds like you're not pushing it all the way into the 'backside' of the mold. Maybe try shaping your fondant so you can be sure to get it all the way in there. I just use candy melts. HTH icon_biggrin.gif

I also have the mold. I have an issue with the face not coming out nicely.
I have tried with fondant only, gumpaste only, 50/50 fondant gumpaste mix and its always the same thing.
I also called the company and they said it is not nessecary to freeze longer then 15 mins.
They also said to make sure the mold is cleaned with warm soap water by hand.

Someone else on CC also suggested using the 50/50 fondant gumpaste mix but also adding gum-tex to it.
I have not done this yet. Gum-tex makes it more workable. Hope this helps. Let us know how things turn out. icon_smile.gif

Just a note, "no returns" doesn't mean they can send you a defective product. It means you can't decide you don't want it ad return it. If the mold is defective and they won't replace it (not refund it) then I'd dispute the charge on my cc or however you paid for it. That is after you find out if it's user error. Good Luck

what about adding just a little corn starch to the back part of the mold.Maybe that will help with sticking..

I was going to ask the same as Turtlemom... a little coating of cornstarch?

Thank you all for such great replies. You all have great input. I have thought about the cornstarch and will try that next. Everything but its back side turns out for me. The only reason I think there may be something wrong with the mold is about looking down into it, it seems to have an extra piece sticking out above where the feet go and it looks out of place, but then I could be wrong...lol I do make sure that my gum paste is very smooth....so I don't think thats it. I usually just take a sculpting tool and fix the problem...this may be my only solution for now, but I will keep ya'll posted because I am going to try different ways. If I find one that works for me then I'll post it promptly....lol... thanks again for all your help. Annie

That extra piece sticking out is to make the division between the legs, so don't remove that part. LOL. I wondered too but then I realized it was part of the mold.

You do have to push it in really hard to get it all in there....try really squooshing it in there, to the point the mold feels like its distorting...and see if that helps.

I love my mold...the hardest thing I thought there was, was trimming the gumpaste off level to the base of the mold.

There is a really good tuorial on the baby mold here. Try this if you haven't seen it yet.

Seems like you got all the advice already. I don't put cornstarch in the mold, but I've used it with 50/50, regular fondant and marzipan as well. Start out with a perfectly smooth ball, and make sure you press your material whatever you use all the way into the deepest details. These molds are strong so don't be afraid to get a little rough with it. Then freeze it for about 20-25 minutes. That way when you get your baby out you don't disfigure it by pushing. Made plenty babes so far and they always come out perfectly smooth. Don't give up! GL! icon_smile.gif

I will also try mine again too with the suggestions about the corn starch and really sticking it in there. If that doesn't work then I'll call them. I really want that to work myself. I'm glad you asked this question. Honestly, I thought I was the only one who had issues with it & didn't want to seem like a total goof. Thanks!
