I just watched the video on the cricut website! It is so cool! I like that it is food safe and dishwasher safe! I have been saving up to buy a serger for sewing.... I am now swithcing those funds over to a Cake machine. I would not want to use my scrapping cricut on cake stuff.....

Yep. In the video, the guy said that ll of the parts would be interchangeable with other machines. I assume that this means the new blade & housing as well.

You know, they could have made a lot of money if they would have had this introduced this before Christmas. Ugh.
I hope they sell the items separately too. I would invest in the blade and the mat. I've had my expression since Christmas and have to say, that its kind of overwhelming. I'm trying to figure out some displays for my next show, and I honestly don't know where to start.

I went to their website and it looks like the blade is sold in packs of 2 for $14.99. Also, there are two mat sizes designed specifically for cutting fondant/gumpaste with cricut for $11.99. It doesn't look like you can order them at the moment. There is a "coming soon" button which doesn't let you place an order. I hate to pay shipping if I don't have to, but wonder how long before the stores get these items.

I see on their site that they have deep cut blades for the cake cricut. However, is there supposed to be a different housing for the cake blades?

Carrie Biggers who is on the video offers cricut cakes classes at her studio in Utah. She is boasting being a "certified cricut cake instructor" but suggest bringing a standard cricut to her classes. I think this is great. Carrie did my wedding cake 8 years ago and I love to see her successes!

The blade and housing from the cake cricut "will not" fit the other machines!

I just signed up for a class from Linda McClure to become certified in her method with using the Cricut and other electronic cutters.

She is offering a 2 day class and when I am done I will be an authentic certified instructor from her, who developed the method and probably knows more then anyone else in this field.

I'm really excited because now I will be able to teach Cricut classes where I live, which is a great chance for me to make extra money and I will know I trained under a real professional!

In her last email to me, she said she is going to a big cake show in Virginia this weekend...if things work out, I plan to go and will get to meet her before the class in May.

So I am curious - certified by whom? Since there is no official certification, can we just go around certifying each other? Is this lady a Certified Decorator? Certified by Provo? Certifiable? icon_lol.gif

Caveat emptor is all I'm saying ... there is a far stretch between making home videos or teaching classes on how to use things and actually "certifying" someone - the latter comes with an implied authority that I doubt she has.

Tobias, You got me curious...I thought, how can she say she can certify you. I emailed her your comment and she responded that not only did she develop the method, but she's helped hundreds of people all over the world, including yourself and Jennifer, personally teaching you two her method in your bakery.
I would say of all the people out there claiming to be a pro at it, she would be the world champion of the method. Provo Craft developed the Cricut Cake machine after her presentation to them. She teaches the method which applies to ALL electronic cutters.
Certifying someone does imply a certain amount of authority, she developed the method, perfected it. Linda Mcclure, of all people, has the authority to teach others how to teach it.
Her "home videos" have been an invaluable source to so many people who are making great cakes, including yourself and your bakery, because of the effort she put into it.
Why are you being so hateful to someone who has done so much to bring a new cake decorating method to so many? She has done nothing but give and give and give and you seem to just want to tear her down.

How did Carrie Biggers become a certified Cricut cake instructor? Who taught her or gave her that authority? Just because she is in a video by PC does not mean anything...Linda Mcclure was in that same video.

Anyone can learn the techniques with practice and teach and even call themselves "certified", by whom and what educational entity would be the question. That's my opinion.

But what I am saying is that Linda CREATED the techniques to teach. Therefore, she of all cake decorators, is the one that I will be giving my money to to learn the methods in depth. I feel that it will be worth every single penny.

Whereas Carrie, I guess...watched the "home movie"? I am just not sure about how she got that title.

And, I think you are missing the point...I was sharing that I was excited to be taking this class. People get excited to take classes...instead of tearing down my instructor, you should have said, "Cool" or "I didn't know they had classes" or something, being a supportive human being who shares a common interest.

Just offering an objective opinion here... to be fair, when someone says that they are "certified" in something, it implies a measure of formality. In other words, to have been formally confirmed as being expert in something by a board which sets the standards for said specialty, and usually being in possession of written confirmation of such. Yes, she may have invented the method. But even if that is the case, I doubt very much that she has any sort of formal certification. I think that is why some people question her "certification"...not her expertise.

I'm not tearing down anybody, nor am I being hateful. I am simply questioning the difference between teaching and certifying - that being said it is fine to take a class and being therefore "certified" meaning having received a certificate. The problem in my opinion comes in when one claims that said "certification" somehow entitles one to go out and teach classes for money - that implies there being some sort of certification or licensing board. Wilton, which is a much bigger company than Linda McClure has the following posted on their web site: "Certification" implies a process for assessing and enforcing standards of performance. We are not set up to provide that kind of service ..." - if Wilton is not set up to do it, I wonder how Linda is ...

Having said that, we have thanked Linda on many occasions, privately and in public for showing us what she wanted to share with the world. To be specific, she demo-ed the machine to Jennifer and asked us to tell the world about it, if she sold videos in the process, that would be a bonus, but it was all about the spirit of sharing. A few months later and in the same spirit of sharing, I personally shared with Linda some of the methods she published in later videos. During the same visit she said she was amazed at some of the things we had accomplished. Linda at the time commented that we were "lightyears ahead" of her - simply due to the fact that we have pushed the technology much further than anybody, including herself.

As far as Carrie Biggers is concerned, I think she would be the person to answer that question.

I didn't see anything hateful about Tobias' question. Linda is very good at what she does but as far as giving I have paid for everything I have gotten from her. I have her videos and they are very good but they certainly wern't free and I'm guessing she isn't "certifying" you for free.

No, I will be paying. However, I have not paid her a penny for the time she has helped me with problems over email and the phone. And apparently, a lot of cake decorators are contacting her to run ideas and problems by her. That is where the free part comes in to play. Of course she is going to sell her product...who would not? She's got to make a living, and not just from cakes!
I think we are all being a bit nit picky about a word, don't you? What would you rather her say? I'd like to hear the opinions of that one.
Is Carrie on this board? Let's ask her how she got "certified" icon_wink.gif No one seems to mind that she says that on her site...and teaches classes. Is there a difference? Just wondering...

Not sure. I'm just quoting her website. icon_wink.gif I will say however Provocraft who makes the Cricut is a Utah company and Carrie Biggers is the premiere decorator in Utah.
