I'm new to this site and the whole cake decorating thing. Always loved baking and did my first bday cake for myself recently. I was wondering if many of you went to a school for this or took classes or are just self taught. Also wondering if anyone is from Abilene,TX and took classes here. Hope to learn lots of stuff from everyone..

WELCOME TO OUR FAMILY!!! We so enjoy "new blood", new thoughts and ideas--believe me-your brain will be taxed and we do love to share!! I lived in Abilene when my DH was stationed there about 10 years ago-worked for few doctors in that area! Everyone here has a wealth of knowledge (whether we realize it or not)-we all learn from each other and our own mistakes/conquests! There are tutorials shown on the site and also tons of suggestions!! Feel free to jump in and swim with us!

I am also self taught, but dying to take the classes. I am crazy for decorating, but don't have as much action as I did in the states. Anyway, welcome and I hope that you stay awhile.

Thank you all so much for welcoming me, hopefully I won't annoy you to much with a million questions One I have right now would be how to find classes to take and what kind do beginners need to take? Also are they really expensive and is the start up stuff expensive. Any help is appreciated thanks

Welcome to CC. You will find that everyone here is helpful. I was self taught and wanted to learn more so I am currently taking classes. I am taking the classes at Michaels the cost is $25 but they run deals all the time so just watch for them if you have a Michaels near you. The more you do the more you will want to do and learn. It will become very addictive. Can't wait to see some pictures of your cakes.
A good place to check with would be with your cake supply stores..a couple here in my town offer classes..some cost more than others because some of the supplies cost more at their stores but Michael's usually has some sort of special or a percent off supplies to make it worth your while, some Ben Franklins crafts have cake things (most are individually owned so some do and some don't) but you can call around and I am sure you will be able to find out-you can also check at the local bakery and find out if they know of lessons...ya never know what you might find out!! But NEVER feel any questions is annoying or pesky or anything but a learning question-we ALL ask them and you will get more answers than you have ever imagined-BRING THEM ON!!! We all love to share our good times, bad times and all fun times!!
