I need to make a birthday cake soon and the birthday man has requested strawberry cake with chocolate icing. Will this taste OK? I kind of think it might because chocolate-covered strawberries taste good but I still have reservations about it.
I'd like to use chocolate buttercream because I'm better at decorating with buttercream and prefer not to garnish it with chocolate covered strawberries.
How would it taste if I used the cookies and cream filling I've seen mentioned on these boards? Y'all have such good suggestions and ideas- I'm hoping you can help me!
Thanks!
I'm not sure about the cookies and cream filling but you could use a strawberry pie filling mixed with some buttercream and I hear it tastes wonderful... and I'm sure chocolate icing would taste good with it ... can't go wrong with chocolate and strawberries together
how about a white or chocolate cake with strawberry filling (i would go with whipped cream or buttercream flavoured with chopped strawberries and seedless strawberry jam), a chocolate buttercream exterior, in say, a basketweave with a nice rope border on the top, and then put half-strawberries (with the cut sides down) on the top, layering them a little, and then DRIZZLE them with melted dark and white chocolate (avoids the dipping).
I just made an anniversary cake that was strawberry cake with strawberry icing for the filling and iced with white chocolate buttercream. Everyone loved it!
Thanks, y'all. I am feeling better about the strawberry cake & chocolate buttercream combination. I think I've decided to make strawberry cake with strawberry filling & tiny chocolate chips mixed with vanilla buttercream in between the layers and milk chocolate buttercream on the outside.
I really appreciate your suggestions! Will post a picture if it turns out OK. Thanks!
Hi Tabithe,
The strawberry cake recipe on this site that has 5 stars is great, so you may want to try that for your cake recipe. I also would fill with strawberry filling or strawberry buttercream, just because the chocolate could potentially overwhelm the strawberry flavor if there's too much of it. You may also want to think about using a whipped ganache for the outside icing. I personally prefer the taste of real chocolate with strawberries, not cocoa.
Any way you slice it, though, I'm sure it will be great!
Ali
