Hi,

The lines on these cakes? Can anyone tell me how to achieve them? Are they ribbons?

Sorry, hopefully you can get the jist of it. I don't know why the quality is so bad. And I don't know why the pink keeps coming up.

Ah, I see the cakes! hip-hip-horray! They do seem like ribbons to me. What does anyone else think?

That's ribbon wrapped around the cake. I saw a detailed post on it somewhere, but I can't remember where.

They are hot pink satiny ribbon stripes....lol. Well, you either split the ribbon into different widths, or buy them different widths, attach it to a starting point with some RI, or double sided tape if you are atarting at the ribbon on the bottom, and just bend and pull it over the sides until they are how you want them. You'll notice none of the curves are real dramatic, or the ribbon will want to sit up and stick out, has to be a gradual swoop, or else the ribbon will not keep a flat shape on the cake. Use RI at various points to make sure it is staying put.

I did one like that. I put the teeniest dot of RI and hid the ending under one of the other ribbons and then put a rose over the last joint of ribbon. Easy peasy!

I find if you are putting ribbon on fondant all you need to do is slightly wet the fondant where the ribbon is going and the ribbon will stick. You only need a little bit of RI for the slight overlap of ribbon at the end. That way you will not run the risk of little blobs showing through your ribbon.

But depending on the ribbon water may make it bleed so test it first. thumbs_up.gif

Even though these were done with ribbon doesn't mean you have to do it that way - I personally think it would be neat to take different widths of fondant strips and attach them to the cake that way, then paint them to look satiny - then they wouldn't have to be removed before serving - might be a neat option!?
