Hi guys- I was working on a cake last night that needed a banner with (Happy Birthday) Printed- not hand written on it. I got an new printer with edible ink over the holidays and decided to give it a try. I reversed the text on my computer,, printed it on a transfer sheet then tried to transfer it to the strip of fondant but it never took??..

What am I doing wrong? I just gave up after about an hour and ended up doing it in writing with an edible marker.. Can anyone give me some pointers please.. Thanks in advance..

P.S. I've attached a photo of the cake so you can see the banner..

I'm not sure what you mean about using a transfer sheet? I print mine on edible paper, slightly dampen a piece of fondant I have rolled, cut out the image I have printed on the edible paper and attach it to the fondant. Let that sit for a few minutes and then trim the fondant around the edges of the image.

If you are using an icing sheet, you would print on it, not in reverse. If you are using a chocolate transer sheet, you would print in reverse. Both have different applications. My guess is you were using an icing sheet (i didnt see where you attached the picture). In that case you would just moisten the fondant and then stick the image on and smooth it out.

Yeah, I'm not sure what type of transfer you were wanting to do onto fondant... I know there was that method going around for a bit with a tiny iron - is that what you mean? I'm with the other pps, just print regular, attach to moistened fondant, trim, apply.
