When making a four tier cake (round) topped with a tea pot would it be better to make the pot of rice crispy, cake or gum paste.

& Can anyone give any instructions to make a gumpaste tea pot? Thank you!! I need the lid of the pot off it ..

I made this tea pot out of a styrofoam ball:

Basically, cut a small slice off the bottom of the ball for the bottom of the pot & a larger one for the top. You can use the top slice for the top of the tea pot. If you want the tea pot without the top, you can hollow the ball out a bit. I brush the styrofoam with piping gel before applying the fondant, but you could also spray it with water or rub it with shortening. I think that the most difficult part was getting the fondant smooth @ the bottom without pleating. Just take your time and pull the fondant out and smooth down all the way around the ball. If you do get some pleating (like I did), you can just add a little border around the base. I made the spout & handle out of gumpaste, and secured them with gum glue and toothpicks.
You could make the pot out of rice krispies or cake the same way. I guess it just depends on if you need more cake & which medium you feel more comfortable using. I like to use styrofoam b/c I can make things way in advance and i can be rougher with it without damaging iticon_smile.gif
HTH!

You cannot make a full size tea pot out of gumpaste. It will crack as it dries and fall apart. If you're going for life size and you don't want to carve it out of cake or use a styrofoam ball, you have very little choice but to go with RKT. In the case of having the lid off of the tea pot, you could make the lid out of fondant rather than gumpaste as it has less of a tendancy to crack as it dries when it is of a certain thickness.
