Hi There,

I was just wondering if someone can tell me how to do dummy cupcakes for displaying? What do you use for the 'sponge'?
Sorry if this is a silly question.

Thanks
Pauline

I recently made a few.

I ordered the cupcake styrofoam form Decopac.com. You may search the web for cupcake styrofoam and see what comes up for you. I used royal icing for te frosting to hold up. I had to work with it to get the right consistency but It worked out.

Good Luck

Good grief.... you don't need to go to all that.

I just baked them with my regular recipe and decorated with royal and they dried hard. I've had some in the shop window for a couple of months.

when i do demos at michaels.. i use GREAT STUFF (insulating foam sealant).. that was in my instructions. i love it.. works great.. i fill the paper cups half full the nite before.. next morning they are ready to ice with royal icing and decorate. they keep GREAT.. still have them in boxes .. ready to show anytime i need. done all kinds... halloween, christmas.. valentine..etc.. hth cheap and easy!!!... you can also use round styrofoam balls and cut in half.. works great too.

I had a couple of cupcakes left in my display case once and I kept thinking, "I need to move those....I need to move those." I FINALLY got around to moving them out of the case and I just set them aside.

These 2 cupcakes sat around for about a year .... I put them with my other dummy cakes and they held up. Real cake .... real icing.... no mold, no bugs.

can you easily take the icing off the dummies if you need to change the look of the cupcake?

You can soak them in hot water, put them in the dishwasher or if the decorations are not rock hard you can peel them away. I personally love the dishwasher.

When I wanted to change a dummy cake, I just used my spatula .... got it under the dried BC and in a few swipes, it all popped off in sheets. Wiped wiht a damp rag and they were ready to go again.
