How many of you actually utilize this resource for cake pricing, inventory, etc.??? Do you like it? Is this the only product out there? The Pros? The Cons??

I respect Cake Central and all you members so I came here with my question as I know I will get, hands down, honest advice and assistance.

Love to you all!!!

Happy holidays!

I don't use cake boss...but just wanted to say maybe the slow response is due to it being christmas...seems all the boards are a little slow.

Also, I don't live all that far from your shop and my dh and I go on mini road trips all the time..susanville, quincy, portola...I hope one day I can pop into your shop to have a looksie...your cakes are amazing!!!

and I just want to give you a bump here

I bought the cake boss upgrade and I haven't really gotten to dive into it yet. I will after New Years. I have most of my ingredients, and a good number of recipes added. So far, I love it! Its fantastic as far as I can tell. The 2010 version has a new master materials, conversions, and expenses tabs as well as a feature reques tab. I can't see how you could be more organized w/ out it.

Thank you so much for your response. I think I will invest in it and see if I can get more organized. I appreciate your info. Also, would like to hear from all of the other Cake Boss Software users, too.

Thanks again!

I love Cake Boss! I don't know how I managed before it. The new version is incredible. Absolutely worth every penny if not more. My dance studio management software was $495 and each year I have to pay an additional $99 for tech support. Tech support is free with Cake Boss and the price is amazing for what you get!

I am very pleased to announce that CakeBoss 2010 is now ready for wide release. Come on over to the cakeboss web site, and check out the new video tour (about 6 minutes long) and screen shots.

This new version has been many months in the making, and contains new features like:

Shopping lists
Multiple photos attached to orders
Track ALL expenses
Master materials list
Easier installation

One of the new features we're most proud of is the ingredient converter for metric and imperial measurements. We have over 100 common baking ingredients loaded with weight-to-volume conversions for metric and imperial. So for instance, you just enter the size bottle of vanilla you buy, in oz or ml, and CakeBoss will break down the price to oz, ml, tsp, and tbsp. If the price changes, you only have to make the change once in your master list for that change to apply to all recipes with vanilla.

Please email me if you have any questions! We're very proud of this new version!

Kelley

I have cakeboss but I admit, I haven't yet taken the time to really get into it. December was my busiest month so far and now I'm getting ready for a bridal fair. When that's all done, I plan to dig into cakeboss more AND I'm upgrading to the 2010 version.

I don't know what I'd do without Cake Boss.........seriously!!! I'd be getting sued by the IRS for sure because as careful as I try to be I'm not perfect and I forget stuff. Cake Boss keeps me SOOOooo organized it's hard to mess up. I've completely forgotten about cake orders and looked at my Orders screen on CAke boss thinking I had no orders that week and went HUH???? and then opened the order and went..oh yeahhhhhhhhhhh.........if not for this program I definitely wouldn't appear as professional to my customers as I do.

They are always so impressed when they learn that I do it from home and I hand them a beautifully organized and typed invoice with their cake. Guess they don't expect that from a home-based business!

kelley is there a way to just upgrade to the new version? Or do you have to buy the new version and re-enter all of your info?

Yes! Current users can upgrade here for $50, the price difference between the old and new versions.

Just install CakeBoss 2010 on the same computer which contains the previous version, and it will automatically import your old data the first time you run it. icon_smile.gif

awesome!!!! I know where my next $50.00 is going!! Just took the tour and it looks amazing.........you guys have added absolutely everything that was ever suggested to you!! This is such a testament to your customer service. You guys ask for feedback and you actually use the feedback. You guys should write books for companies starting out and teach them how they should treat customers! I have nothing but good things to say about the old cake boss program so I'm very confident that the new version will be even more amazing and user friendly.

So what happens when you make a new release each year... just going to up the price again or once you guys have all the features it will settle on something?

I want the software but I don't want to buy it and then have a bunch of new things come out but I guess if the upgrade price is the difference between the new and old customers then it's not a big deal.. it would be if new installations were 150 and upgrade was 150... or even 100...

Are we planning any new developments or changes? Or taking suggestions on it?

I really really want an office inventory system in there.. I don't know if it has that feature.. where I can keep track of all of the pans, tools, cutters, etc..

Just got cake boss for Christmas, still learning but love it. Even though I don't have Internet access at my shop, I can take my lap top with me and look at a customer order, no more taking tiny scraps of paper to the shop. (Business phone at home, in case you are wondering about my crazy system)

I can't really speak for Kelley, BUT I can speak from experience with this company...
Cake Boss has been around for a few years and this is the first New version they have produced, it is almost a totally new program so yes the new fee is justified. I can also say that I bought the original verson and there were quite a few minor upgrades and one major module created and updated at NO CHARGE! Not to mention you do not have to pay a separate fee for tech support. That in of itself makes it the most economical bakery management software on the market.

Before I purchased Cake Boss, the only bakery management software I found cost over $3000 and was designed for mass production bakeries, so not what I was looking for or even able to afford. The beauty of Cake Boss is that large bakeries and the home hobbiest can use this product and it is an amazingly affordable program. If you have the old version you can continue to use if and elect not to upgrade. Just like Quickbooks, every year Quickbooks comes out with a newer version, most times the only change is the esthetics and nothing more, and they want to charge you $300 for it. But you don't have to purchase the new one. I have been using the same Quickbooks program since 2000 no need to upgrade. You aren't being forced to upgrade from the first version of Cake Boss, but you expect to get a major rewrite (which by the way was requested by most the users of CB asking for these improvements and Kelley listened) out of which a phenominal product emerged for free is unrealistic. I can equate that to a cake client wanting to purchase a 3 tier cake with all the bells & whistles, but only wanting pay your base price that is quoted before all the embellishents are added. Can you see the correlation? Also, It was 3 years before they came out with a new version, and this one is so complete it might be a few more years before there will be a need to rewrite a new version completely.

My cake boss program takes FOREVER to start up. Drives me nuts I almost never use it due to this. It seems to be going online every single time or something. Is there away to customize settings and make it load faster? I have an older computer 512mb ram windows xp. (My new computer is a mac so I have to run cake boss on the old pc since it is not mac compatible. Any suggestions? I would like to use this program after I paid for it and it could be helpful but the sluggishness of it makes me just forget it and hand write everything in notebooks.

You can run Windows software on any new Mac with Parallels:

I do not have or want parallels. Just want cake boss to run at a decent speed on the desktop pc in the bakery. all my other programs run on it w/o sluggish behavior. Internet is fast. Dunno why cake boss is slow.

contact Kelley. It does have to access the server to check for updates each time you open it. Mine isn't sluggish at all could definitely be that your computer is older. I know I finally had to get rid of my old desktop because it ran at a snails pace on all programs due to the limited memory, since then have not had a problem with any programs (including Cakeboss) loading.
