I know, I know. Inita's parents were an extremely conservative Fundamental Baptist family; I think they had no clue what they had hoisted upon her.

She got married soon after high school. And DIDN'T hypenate her name.

My kids pediatricians are named Dr. Megahead and Dr. Fell.
Try explaining that to a 2 yr old.
"We're going to see Dr. Fell."
"The doctor fell?"
"No honey, the doctor's name is Dr. Fell."
LOL

omg, in the short time I browses this, I am hooked and have emailed the link to about 15 friends!

My favorite is the young mom who named her child "Ah-SHOLE-ley" .... spelled A-S-S-H-O-L-E .... Ah-SHOLE-ley. Nurse turned to gramma and showed her the spelling, saying "Your daughter wants THIS on her child's birth certificate?" and gramma said "Oh, that's fine!" icon_eek.gif

I wanted to be named Liesel from the time I was about three. Finally in my high school German class we got to pick our own German name by which we'd be called in class. I was so excited - - I finally got to be called Liesel, at least for an hour a day. icon_smile.gif

The Dr. who delivered me was Dr. Slappy.

I have a good friend who years ago worked in labor and delivery in a local hospital and she would write down all the crazy names that people named their babies. My all time favorite is.... IwillariseinthemorningandmeetsweetJesus....they call him "Iwilla" for short.

Well, I have to share too! When I was in high school I worked part-time at Prudential Insurance Company. My supervisor's name was Richard Peters and yes he would introduce himself as Dick Peters. As a high schooler I sure had to learn how to keep a straight face, EVERY DAY!

On another note, we just attended my daughter's graduation last month from the great U of F. Not only was Tim Tebow graduating, Harry Potter received his degree as well. Yes, I will always remember my daughter's graduation for many reasons.

I went to college, and on a few dates, with John Weiner.

My parent's are friends with a family named Peck. Including Richard Peck. And Richard Peck Jr.

My nephew is Neal, not Neil. Try finding anything spelled that way.

My doctor is Dr. Baad. Either really bad or a sheep. I'm not even sure how to pronounce it.

Just remembered another one - Polly Ester. Does anyone remember Major Dad, TV show with Gerald McRaney from the 80's? His wife's name was Polly Ester - and she made her parents sign a gag order on it!

Polly ester! When I used to play piano at Nordstrom years ago, a lady would come in every once in a while to listen. Her name was Polly Esther. Her last name was Sheets. Really!

My brother's second-grade classmate was Candace Caine, her nickname was Candy.

My sister's orthodontist was Dr. Itchinose. My mom would mark my sis' appointments on the calendar by drawing a nose.

One of my subs in high school was Mrs. Slaughter, and no--I don't know if her husband was a surgeon.

A friend of mine from high school, a fellow musician, had the surname Melodia. What a great name for a musician!

Thanks for the giggles, everyone!

--PianoDiva, whose own maiden name is a very long Italian tongue-twister and married a Scotsman with a very short surname that's easy to pronounce--but nobody can spell!

I remember watching a show one time where they put a dummy in a car that looked like a cop car to slow down speeders. They named the dummy Pat Rolman. icon_smile.gif I think a lady really called 911 and said "officer down!!" thinking he was real. icon_smile.gif
I'm not getting married anytime soon, but I should be carefull, my last name is Wood. God knows how many combos there are for that one! Can you imagine...Giant/Wood wedding!?? icon_smile.gif
Thanks for the laughs guys!!! ha ha ha!

My brother (7 years younger than me) came home from the first day of school in (I can't remember if it was kindergarten, first or second grade) distraught. He asked my mom what he was supposed to call his teacher. Confused, she told him to call her by her name. He told her he couldn't, and when she asked why, he told her the teacher's name was Miss Butt, and we had been taught that that was a bad word.

Another case where I just don't understand why people don't change their name.

Luckily, the teacher got married a year or two later.

My mom's name is Pat, and she thinks it would have been too funny if she had ended up with that last name:

"What's your name?"
"Pat Butt"
"Okay, if you insist"

I was on the jury where the judge's last name was Weiner. For three weeks we all had to rise for the honorable Judge Weiner. The first time we heard this I thought for sure someone would laugh since none of us knew his name ahead of time.

A woman I worked with's name was Jenna and married Mr Taylor.

The nearest big city near me used to be Rockhampton, and a doctor that people used to visit there was named Dr Bullwinkle. I laughed pretty hard the first time someone said they were going to Rocky to see Bullwinkle.

Well, I just discovered last night that Harley's poor sister Havana was named after her parent's favorite cigars! Find some different inspiration!

I have to say I love unique names & unique spellings. I chose Adeline & Ansleigh for my girls. No, we don't find persoanlized pencils in stores (but thankfully there's the internet now). And while I thought they were pretty simple (Ansleigh a little more different, but has the female "leigh") but almost everyone spells my oldest Adaline & they add an "I" to make it Ainsley, Ainslee, Aynsley, Ansley (which is the most common but a boy's spelling), Anslee, Anslie, etc. I know we live in the south, but I've never put an I in her name when pronouncing it. I want to tell them 1)I signed her in on the sheet 2) Her belongings are embroidered 3) Her cups have her name on them . When people ask how to spell it my dh says An--sleigh. My grandparents just write Wren on everything (her middle name which is actually a perfect description of her)

My FIL wanted to name my SIL Jemima. Thankfully my MIL said no way, but it would have been cool for my girls to have an Uncle Ben & Aunt Jemima icon_smile.gif

I can honestly say I had to hold my stomach its was aching so much from laughing!!

I even have a name to add to the list. My now retired dentists name was Dr. Jinks! icon_biggrin.gif

shoulda had my maiden name growing up.. my maiden name was Fetch.. Yup just like that.. went from Fetch which i was teased about incessantly to Hengen which no one can pronounce if they read it.. or spell when i tell them my name.. lol its with the G as in Goal sound not a J sound.. although there is a doctor nearby with the same spelling and he pronounces his with a J sound

Elise, we run into that problem w/ our last name which isn't difficult until you apparently make a reservation. So we give dh's name (josh) but Cracker Barrel is the greatest b/c they put Ms or Mr in front of the name & we're always Ms. Josh

newmansmom I have heard the song & that's why every elderly person loves my dd's name. And of course it becomes popular around here after I name my daughter what I thought was a unique name.

Talking to my older brother this weekend brought up good memories of him & his friends prank calling people in the phone book----yet another reason you should watch what you name your kid. Harry Butts (think it's already been mentioned) was called on numerous occasions. surprised he didn't have his number unlisted.

In my country, the former archbishop of the Catholic church was named Cardinal Sin.

No, seriously.
