omggggggggggg i found a bug in my cupcake upon delivery.

omg. omG. OMG.
Ok...I'm kind of ashamed here. And embarrased.
I made a cupcake bouquet.
Well everything was ok. I packaged it very loosely as not to damage the frosting, pretty much lightly covered it, and got it ready for delivery.

When I got to the place, there were trees everywhere. And right when I ring the doorbell, I notice that on the INSIDE of the packaging some stupid ass little stupid bug must have thought it was a real flower bouquet or something and parks it's little bug ass on the INSIDE of the packaging on one of the cupcakes!
So in my frantic attampt to somehow shake/pick out the bug from the bouquet, I kinda knocked it over and it fell in between 2 cupcakes and got lost. Of course thats when customer opened the door...

I never heard anything from her though...I'm really hoping no news is good news!!!


Would you have said something? Am I horrible?

oh man, I've had this same thing happen only with HAIR instead of a bug (just as bad if you ask me though)...............why does it always happen AFTER you ring the bell?

That's really gross!!! I'm shocked that you just kept on as if nothing had happened. I think you most certainly should have said something.

I dunno....it seems like the right thing to post here is "You should have said something." but if I were in that position, I can't really say with COMPLETE CERTAINTY that I would have said something either.

I'm gonna agree with Misdawn. If I'm in the situation, I may end up saying something but I'm not 100% sure.

That may be wrong, but I am also be 100% honest.

Ewwwww...Okay, if it were me I know I would have somehow "slipped" and grabbed that one cupcake "accidentally" smashing it. "Ohh, I'm sorry, what a clutze. blah blah blah," then offered a minimal refund while retrieving the smashed cupcake. No one eats bug, I don't feel guilty...... you can't give something like that to a customer and it is too late now to say anything. Sorry that happened.

Now I would definitely pull that cupcake out of the bouquet....just sayin' that I'm not sure I would tell the customer why.

it's not like there were bugs in her ingredients..........the bug flew into the loosely wrapped cupcakes! I've done outdoor weddings (hate to do them) and one wedding they told me they had to put a garbage bag over the cake because there were bugs flocking to it and landing all over the fondant..........everyone ate the cake without hesitation........there's a HUGE difference between finding a moth poking its head OUT of a cupcake and a fruit fly or whatever landing on top of the surface of a cupcake........sorry but there is!

now....if it were me, I probably would have said to the customer " Oh no........I just lifted the edge of the plastic wrap up because it was starting to smoosh the icing and a fly just flew in there!!!!!" At that point you'd be able to pick it out without worry." If she freaked out, then she freaks out...not much you can do about it.

Thanks everyone.
KHal is right, that is definately what I should have done! Of course, hindsight is 20/20 and I was still just kinda standing there with my jaw dropped. It's so easy for people (ESPECIALLY ME!) to say " I would have done this", if someone other than me was the OP I would have said the same really. But in the moment and you're kinda shocked and it's a first and ya dont really know what to do/say....

and yes just to clarify it had landed on the bouquet and then fell between two of the cupcakes onto the foam. some weird little green bug.

Oh yes. As soon as she opened the door or something, I would have started acting like "oh dang!! I must have walked into a swarm of gnats coming up the drive....geez, one flew in and got stuck!"

I delivered a cake a few months ago to an outdoor reception in the citrus grove area of the county. Gnats like crazy. I mean I could feel them bonking into my head as I was carrying the cake. I felt bad, cause I knew there were gonna be gnats all over the cake. But not only that, landing on peoples food, falling into their drinks....at least it was fondant covered, and at least you would have been an idiot not to know the bugs weren't something that came with the cake!

As mentioned above, hindsight is 20/20, but that's why we post our disasters .... so others can learn from them and know what to do when it happens to THEM! thumbs_up.gif

When I had my first slider cake, last year, I would have had *NO* idea how to salvage it except for all of the threads I had read on here about that same situation.

_Jamie_, I will NEVER understand why someone wants to spend that much money on a wedding and then chance the whole thing on weather. icon_confused.gif
