I made these balls wanting them to be christmas ornaments...Sigh.....I really wanted to do these ornaments for my office team. I was going to hand paint everyones name on them. But they look like a 6th grade science project gone bad.. They weren't round at all....in person they look like oblonged shaped apples....what did i do wrong?

How is everyone making these ornaments look round.... To me the mini ball pan cakes were a disaster...icon_sad.gif

In the photo they look pretty round. I'm sure your co-workers won't think they look like a science project. They should be very greatful to receive a very thoughtful gift!

I'm sure once you put their names on them and they are all done up they will look GREAT icon_biggrin.gif

They really look good in the pic! Go ahead and decorate, any flaw - perceived or actual - will not be noticed when decorated as everyone will be so tickled to have their own "personalized" ornament.

Just like so many cake projects, an ugly canvas is magically transformed into a beautiful work of art once the decorations are added. Why don't you see if you can disguise the lack of symmetry with glitter and scrolls and whatnot. I bet they'll look awesome. icon_smile.gif

Don't forget that once you get some decorations on them, those will hide and detract from any imperfections you might see right now! (although they look pretty darn round to ME!!!)

Of course you only mention names. I'd put some simple decorations on (snowflakes, dots, etc.) and then also add a top thingy - you know, where you can hang it up on the tree.

My cakes always look awful before the decorations go on - I try to ignore that (and fail completely every time) but in the end I'm usually really happy with the overall effect.

These are just a work in progress!!!

Keep it up!

I think I just had a "ta-daaaaa" moment where I think I can salvage the work I did yesterday. I think I am going to take the fondant off and just use the halves. PLace them on a sheetcake board and still decorate them like I had planned but it will only be half. Then ill place a half sports ball size ornament in the middle. Then ill shove the green fondant around the red ornaments like tissue paper. Crisis solved... Right?

Hey, go for it. Just don't overwork yourself, because they will be appreciated anyway. No one knows what your vision was but YOU.

Don't take them apart! I'd totally just go with what you already have. They look really round in the photo and if you glitter them up (even just an all over dusting) it will hide a lot of whatever little marks we can't see.

Those are still in tact, however, i picked one of the red ones up (covered in modeling chocolate) and it stuck to the cake plate. So the ones I had left to cover in fondant I split in half and covered and decorated.

Not a great pic cause i didnt ave time to uncover and recover before i left for work this morning but you get the idea.....

I still have to place the tissue paper.....icon_smile.gif

see I think we just worry for nothing. They looked great from the start.....it's just that we see stuff that other won't see..we are our worst critics.
