All the best in your new endeavor! Teaching is a very rewarding career. Those darlings will never know what hit them and will love history with you directing them!
WOW...Congratulations Debi on your grant!! What a great thing to be able to go back to school and not have to pay for it! Best of luck on all your future endeavours, hope you still linger around CC, it would not be the same here without you.
I'm an absolute newbie here but have lurked for the past few months. Even I, as a total new person have found you so informative and you have taught me heaps so thank you so much for that.
Good luck with your teaching and congratulations on the grant. What a thrill to be able to do something you have dreamed of for so long.
Wow. I check in once and a while, and I find *this*?? As many others have said, congrats and good luck to you!
i hated history class, but with you as a teacher, i'm sure it would have been my favorite class. just a feeling
i wish you all the luck in the world with your new adventures and i know you're going to do great!!
Congratulations Debi!! I'm still paying for my teaching credential. I was just laid off this last June from teaching 1st grade for 8 years! Teaching jobs are hard to come by where I live. Hopefully things will change soon. I love teaching and miss having my classroom. It is soooooooo rewarding and I would not trade it for anything. Just by reading all your posts, I can tell you will be an awesome teacher! Blessings to you and your new endeavor!!! Bethany
Wow, debi that was a shock! But I'm so happy that you have a grant and can move on to something just as needed in the community a teacher. Congrats on the job and your new adventure, I've heard you voice in my head many a time since coming here and hope to continue *beaming*
Good luck.
Good luck to you in this new chapter of your work. You're sure to touch as many lives teaching as you have here.
Glad to hear you're sticking around for at least a little while...
Debi,
Just a point of interest for you...we live very near (about a half hour drive) from the Harriet Tubman home in Auburn, NY. We have seen it many times.
Perhaps in your new life you will be able to visit there.
Its a very humble little white house, and a hugely humbling experience to visit there.

foodguy, I was born and raised in/near a little one-intersection town called Fountain City, IN, where the Levi Coffin house is located. It's a pretty awesome place, considered quite large for a house of it's time.
For those who don't know, Levi Coffin was considered the Grand Master Conductor on the Underground Railroad, and his home was called the Grand Central Station on the Railroad. It is said that every slave that passed thru the Coffin house, made it to freedom. There is a well inside the house (something that was just never heard of in those times) so the neighbors couldn't see how much water they were using, which would give them a clue to the number of people in the house at any given time.
(sorry for the history lesson interjection .... we now return to our regularly scheduled programming! )
Debi, My maternal grandparents owned a house on the banks of the Hudson River in Fort Edward, NY. There are signs that their house was used in the Underground Railroad, on the way to Montreal.
Best wishes for your new life, once a teacher always a teacher just a new subject. Bravo
Deb, I will never look at history like I used to again. I learned something just now. Thank you. I know you will be awesome when you get going!!! YIPPIE HOORAY!!!!
Headlines will read:
"Indydebi, previously called the "Forum Matriarch" of the CC world, teaches history with the same gusto as the catering & cake industries!!!"
Thank you so much, I am glued when you post!!! My hat is off to you now and always!!!
Debi,
you are naturally born teacher. Those "monkey buts" will love you!
Congratulation, it is never late to follow a dream. You will be a wonderful teacher, just as you are here for us CC-ers. I am happy for you.

My nephew is a high school history teacher, and he absolutely loves it. I am sure that you will find it very rewarding as well. I'm happy you were able to get the grant. That's fantastic. Good luck!
Wow...hell has frozen over and pigs are flying everywhere. Never in a million ...no gazillion years would I have ever thought to hear this...
You know my first Bachelors degree was in Home Economics Teaching (which I never went into after ) and an Associates in Food Management( which I used for 10 yrs before becoming an RN). I despised my student teaching time so never taught. I give you mucho kudo's for wanting to teach and you will find being of a mature age you have an advantage over these teeny boppers...lol.
Good luck Deb

What can I possibly add that others haven't already expressed? Shock, abandonment (then relief) and finally acceptance. ha ha. You really surprised us.
You're simply THE BEST. Sometimes, I wished I knew you in real life so I could hug you. You've made me feel hopeful many times in the last (very) few months that I've been on CC. So, in short, you're a special gift to us and I'm genuinely happy for YOU. God bless you.
p.s. "Dr. Debi" ....sounds nice. I hope you'll realize all your dreams.
Condolences? Hah! Condolences to the middle schoolers with their pipe dreams of bamboozling every teacher they come in contact with and their steadfast refusal to do something as un-cool as actually getting interested in a subject.
Debi, you've been my teacher for the last year (and will be for many years to come, I hope) and this may be the most valuable lesson you've taught me: take care of your health and follow your heart's desires.
God bless you Debi you will do wonderful. I know it was a tough decision and I worked in catering it is hard work. To much on you physically but like you said you are not going any where you will still be with us.
Wow, when I opened this thread, Debi, your post was the last thing I expected to read! I am very excited for you though. Education is a wonderful thing and you have shown all of us here on CC that you are an excellent teacher so you will go far! I started out in education as a teacher and have since moved into the role of an Educational Diagnostician. I love working with children. It is very fulfilling!
This student is still learning too so I will be looking for your posts on the board as they are always so helpful and full of information and honesty!

What she said! Words fail me.... I know that I when I see you've posted on a thread no matter the subject I always check to see what pearl of wisdom has been given or what candid answer will make me laugh. Hope you the best and Good Luck!!!
I'm relatively new to this forum but I have to say that I have learned so much from you and wish you TONS OF LUCK in your new adventure!!
You could teach "How to Watch Paint Dry 101" and people would line up to take the class!
Those are some lucky students!
Maybe we'll see you on the Food Network judging a contest?!!
So crazy to hear!!! I know I look forward to seeing your posts often...so I'm glad to hear you'll still be entertaining/teaching us! (Thanks, BTW!) I am the opposite of a history buff, but if you're half as interesting teaching history as you are on here, then some kids are going to be extremely lucky! Best of luck to you and your new (hopefully pain-free) adventures!!!
I admire you for taking a very tough situation and turning it into a new adventure and way of life for yourself. You really seem to be the type of person that will give it your all and succeed in whatever you try.
I love reading your posts on CC and am so glad you will still be here.
wow! sounds like you have a lot going on! im sure you'll be finding this change refreshing....
but you should TOTALLY do a book!
you have a flair for interesting writing and clever anecdotes.... seriously, you could make a bundle and help a lot of people at the same time!
Congrats on the grant and deciding to go back to school! I hope the neck pain isn't as severe for you! So glad you're not leaving CC, I know I, for one, look forward to reading your posts. I agree with a PP, I never liked history class, but I bet I'd have paid more attention with you as a teacher, lol!
Oh, and you can't change your AV, it's so totally the image we all have of you!
Congrats again!!!
~Chelle
Wow was all I could think of when I opened this post. Who saw that comming. I havent been on CC for very long but always looked forward to reading your comments and advice you had to offer. I'm so happy for you as you open the door to a new adventure. You'll be an amazing teacher, you already are! So happy to hear you'll still be in touch with us. Good luck and best wishes.
Debi...wear the sweaters.
And please never leave CC. Like many other posters, I look for your posts first. You are the CC goddess!
