Hi all!

I just posted this topic in the recipe request forum and thought I should post it here too.

I'm in my early 40's. Remember the animal cracker cookies that Nabisco made in the horizontal circus theme box with the string carry handle? When I was a kid, Nabisco also made 3 cookies in the same size box as the animal crackere but the box was vertical. The 3 flavors came in boxes that were the same design but different colors. There was the lemon/lime cookies in a lime green and white box, the chocolate cookies were in a brown and white box and the chocolate chipe were in a red and white box. The boxes had the cookie on it with whiskers and triangle ears (like a cats face). The cookies were flat and about 1 to 1 1/2" rounds. The lemon/lime was a pale yellow, the chocolate were dark (brown/black) and the chocolate chips were light brown (like light brown sugar) and the chips looked like it was swirled in.

To me, these were the BEST cookies in the world! Does anyone remember them? I haven't contacted Nabisco yet. I NEED these recipes! Anyone have one; maybe from grandma or an aunt? TIA!

I found something on Google Images. Is this the box for the chocolate ones?

I found it on the Cookie Madness blog where she tries to re-create the recipe:

Antonia, I know right?

Labella, If I didn't, you guys probably would have figured it out anyway. Those cookies go way back.

Berla weren't they just scrumptious. I loved them all but those chocolate chips, OH MY GOODNESS!!! Although now my favorite chocolate chip cookie is chips ahoy (the original hard ones in the blue package), if Nabisco brings the snaps back or I find the recipe chips ahoy can forget it.

i just made these today:

http://tracyladolcevita.blogspot.com/2008/12/dough-temperature-chocolate-sugarsnaps.html

I made them WAY to big, but they were DELISH!

I have the book this recipe came from and this recipe is printed just like in the book. The 1/2 brown sugar is 1/2 cup.. and looking again, I think I used a cup of butter.. guess I gotta make them again!

lilthorner, I was just coming back to say I found those same sites and recipes; your cookies look good.

We're not the only ones missing and reminising about the snaps; plenty of people have been talking about them on the web. I even found someone who was misty eyed when someone else posted the boxes on another site. I contacted her, found out we were twins seperated at birth. LOL (just kidding)

Oh man, seeing those boxes again brought back memories. Those were really good sweet memories. That would be so awesome if they would bring those back. I am sure that the kids of today would love them as much as we did. I love seeing things from the past. Thanks for bringing some good memories back... icon_lol.gif

I won't be ablle to try these recipes until after the holidays; I've got a lot of baking to do from now til the 23rd. I know you all know what I'm talking about.

Rebea, I know. It feels and felt good to see them again and to know that everyone remembers and loved them as much as do.

Bigmama, if you have the time to try this recipe before next year, let us know what you think. For all of you who knows and love them if you get to try the recipes before the new year, let us know if it's the same.

While surfing the web last night/this morning I found out that Nabisco brought the chocolate snaps back; they're now called chocolate wafers. Some say that they taste just like choco. snaps but someone else said that it wasn't the original because the original had coconut in them; two people said that. As a kid I didn't get that from them; it was all chocolatey to me.

yummy, that blog isnt mine.. I just searched for the recipe so I wouldn't have to type it out.. I read that they tasted like the wafers too, and that they didn't.. the photo of the box does say something about coconut, but I got all chocolate flavor from them too..

that recipe (from the blog) was really close.. I was getting unsure like is this really the taste? they were REAL good though even with my mess up of adding too much butter

We need to get to the bottom of this I will not stop til Nabisco brings back the original (no changes) or I find the exact recipe. Isn't it funny how some of the classic things that everyone loves changes; companies need to learn not to mess with perfection.

Off the topic of cookies and cakes for a moment, here are some memories for you.

Back in the day (when I was a child) , we thought that Breyers vanilla, cherry vanilla and butter almond was the best . Heck, I think that back then, Breyers were the leading maybe the only ice cream there was. It has changed drastically! We don't even buy Breyers anymore. Have you guys notice this too?

When I was in my pre-teen years, AVON made thiese 2 perfumes that were perfect for a young girl my age. One was called Honeysuckle and the other was called Hawaiin White Ginger. They came in short round glass (ball like) bottles. The honeysuckle was a clear yellowish color with a yellow round (ball like) top and the hawaiin white ginger was a clear blue /aqua color with the matching color top like the other one. They smelled heavenly!!! Fastforward to 1995. I start contacting AVON and inquiring stronly about bringing back these two scents (for my daughter and myself, I don't like strong smelling perfumes) . Two years later they bought it back; the bottles were taller, both of the liquids were clear, the tops were the colors that represented the originals. I was ecstatic until I opened them. Why oh why don't companies know how to leave well enough alone? The alcohol hit you hard first and then if you could stand to keep you nose there a few seconds longer a smidgen of the original scent came through. I want to ask them about bringing Foxfire back (loved it) but I'll have to let them know that when consumers inquire about bringing back a classic, we want the original that we all fell in love with.

I've worked for Nabisco for 32 years (Chicago) and have worked with the snaps. it was moved from the plants some 25 years ago. No word on what happened to it. But I've seen so many cookies leave the plant never to be found again. Sometimes they go to Mexico or just get discontinued. Cookie break was one of my fav's. It's gone too.

Oh, I might add. Nabisco was sold to Kraft five or six years ago. A lot of changes happened after the sale.

Yummy, Try Coconut Lime Verbena scent from Bath & Body Works. No, it doesn't smell anything like the honeysuckle, but it is a very light scent, especially if you get the fragrance mist (the eau de toilette is stronger.) Mango Mandarin is also good. Those are the only two scents I can use from them. All of their other scents make me ill (headaches, coughing, breathing issues.)

http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/shop/index.jsp?categoryId=2073259&cm_re=Shop%20By%20Fragrance-_-View%20All-_-Shop%20By%20Fragrance(2073259)

They do sell a honeysuckle, but I didn't really like it (I was hoping it would be like the Avon one, but it's not.)
