I live in Southern California and I buy them all the time. ABC Cakes in the city of Orange. They have silver, gold, and other cool colors. They have a website. abccakes.com.

made cookies at my daughter's house yesterday. my granddaughter spilled TWO containers of these ... one silver; one pearl. daughter tried sweeping them up and said, 'You just can't sweep little balls!" she was stepping on them all afternoon .... they may be little but they really hurt under your foot! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

I believe it all started here in my home state of CA when some crazy lawyer decided that if you at 8 POUNDS of these at one time then it COULD be toxic. Ok, who in the world eats that much of ANYTHING at one time? Anyways, since CA is such a sue-happy state, the courts decided not to take the chance. SIGH. So to have silver dragees I have to start out with the white ones and hand paint them. SIGH. As for them breaking teeth..well, I once broke a tooth on sushi...yup, SUSHI...what a ridiculous thing to break a tooth on...I mean, it's soft! It's just the angle you hit the food with your teeth. So yes, while it is possible to break a tooth on them, it's as likely that they could break a tooth on a candy sprinkle.

I don't like to use mine, because they were so expensive!
I just look at the bottle and say to myself, does the cake/cookie really need those pricey little things?

You've already spent the money. Enjoy them!! I've used mine a lot and have barely made a dent on my bottle.

Debi, it's a little like stepping on a Jack, isn't it? I know you remember Jacks. Boy, was I in trouble when my dad stepped on one.

I am like that with my pixie dust now that I only work part time. I used to think that whatever it was it would look better with pixie dust, now I think, nah, just fine!

Okay, what about petit fours? How do you pronounce that properly? I live in KY, so I hear all kinds. The last cake shop I worked at was across the street from a Gourmet Chili, yep, Gore met! Hilarious!

Ha, I feel your pain. I'm in KY well... they should be pronounced like "Petty." Since we're in KY, we should just tell them it's pronounced like
"Petty", as in Richard Petty of race car fame --then they'd get it. icon_lol.gif

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/petit+four
Hit the speaker and you can hear it pronounced...

edited to add that cakepro's is more of the true french pronunciation.

LOL - people worry abut consuming little silver cachous, yet will down a can of diet anything that contains Aspartame - lollllllllllll

People will cut up fruit and vegtables without giving thought to washing them -

People will reach for a pill to fix a headache -

People will doctor a cake mix with preservatives and artificial additives -

People will buy cheese in a can icon_eek.gif

People will buy mock cream - tapedshut.gif

People will actually walk out of a toilet and *rinse* their hands under a cold tap for 2 seconds tapedshut.giftapedshut.gif then proceed back to their kitchen icon_cry.gif

People will buy GM foods - and not even know or care for that matter

Pardon my mild myrth over the concern and worry as to whether a little silver cachous will harm anyone -

It's all too mind numbing

I do everything above, lol, but I use dragees too icon_smile.gif Wait, I do wash my fruits and vegetables AND I thoroughly wash my hands after using the bathroom- I have an immuno-compromised child... can never be too clean!

What are GM foods? General Mills? Am I missing something?

I havent read the thread, but I figure in all these years making cakes I barely ate them. When you cut the cake they mostly fall out. And it they stay on, how many of them will stick to the piece? One maybe two?

I think most people dont eat them. I know I dont. So I dont worry too much about it.

icon_biggrin.gif LOL I have a necklace/pendant that is basically mercury inside a sealed glass vial with a clear liquid (water?) and people always freak out when I wear it - what if you fall on your face and it breaks into your mouth??
icon_eek.gif

Also, I love using dragees and have recently discovered the multi-colored ones - so pretty!
