I am trying to get back in to making people figures. I used a current tutorial from Lorraine McKay for making the faces look more realistic, but I don't think I hit the mark. What do you think--is the nose too big for this baby's face? Also, is there anyone out there who is as skilled as Lorraine that can give tips on how to "style" hair with fondant? I am all thumbs when it comes to that.

That is too cute! I think it looks adorable, and I personally do not think the nose looks too big. But maybe some of the experts on here can help you better than me (just an admirer for figures).

It's really cute. You're right, though, the nose is a bit big. I would make the nose just a dot, no defined nostrils, and also next time, maybe put the eyes and the ears a bit lower down. But it's a great figure icon_biggrin.gif I like the way the feet look like they're kind of grabbing onto each other, my kids' feet always did that when they were babies.

Thats really, really cute, but yeah, she has somewhat of a big piggy nose. But she still is so cute. I think she looks fine in every other way, hair as well.

She is very cute, I love her, maybe a tiny bit smaller for the nose, but an overall great job.

If I did not know that your concern was over the nose, I would never have looked at the picture and thought "Gee, that nose is too big". You're just stressing over it because it is yours. The baby is really cute.

I agree it's so adorable. Maybe go about 1/2 size on the nose, that way you could still do nostrils.
I remember an art teacher in grade school taught us to draw faces - she had us draw an oval and divide the oval into 4 equal parts, placing the the bottom line of the eyes on the cross line. Hope that makes sense.

But then again, it depends on the look you're going for - she is so cute - and I don't think any recipient would think the nose is too big - they would only think about how cute she is.

Had to read this post...great subject line. I think her nose is cute-to me when the baby looks to real it weirds me out.

Great job- so neat and the colors are very pretty.

I think she's cute, kind of exaggerated like some baby dolls are. Maybe you could do a little flat dot for a nose, if you are not happy with it.

She is so pretty, she just has a big nose... LOL. Did you use an online tutorial or something else?

Thank you

It's adorable. If it's dry, I would not change it. But maybe next time, just a tad smaller. But it really is cute!

realy really good attempt - the actual postion of the figure is perfect, the painted eyes, the pose, and hair are all brilliant. maybe the nose could be a little smaller but if i got it on my cake i would be well pleased. icon_smile.gif

ps hair is my downfall too, its really hard icon_sad.gif

Color the nose with a little pink petal/ luster dust - it will make it look like she has a cold - boo boo. But she is too adorable.

I think Lorraine's work is amazing and she is a wonderful teacher. Your figure is really cute. I use my sugar*craft gun for making hair.

I think she is so cute. I have hair issues to so I was advised to use a garlic press and attach a few (2 or 3) strands at a time but still have not fully mastered it. my only attempt this way was on my angels christmas cake.

Thank you all for the nice comments and the tips for improvement. I really appreciate them. I know it's a matter of practice. Maybe some day we could talk Lorraine in to doing a tutorial for how she does hair.

Gabitusm - Lorraine McKay (known as aine2 on CC) has step by step tutorials for sale on her website. They are well worth the money.

Your figure is fine. Having taken a number of classes from Lorraine, she always says "they're not supposed to look real; they're cartoonish." You may want to try to make the nose a little less "round" by making the middle tip up or pinch in a little. Doesn't have to be done--it looks great the way it is but if that's the only thing you see when you look at it you can always work with it! Good job!
