Can someone tell me how to get the tree trunk effect like Earlene Moore has on some of her grooms cakes? Also were can I find some more pics of tree stump cakes?

Thanks,
Angela

www.sugarcraft.com actually sells a log pan. It's worth taking a look and seeing if that will work for you.

I am not exactly sure about the tree stump, but I saw on another web site but I can't remember which one, but it looked like a sawed off tree stump.
It looked like it was made with afew different sizes of round pans stacked, from large on the bottom up to the smallest one, and then it looked like it was iced in a light brown frosting first to look like the inside of a tree after it is sawed. and then it has either brown buttercream I think, or possibly whipped ganache, put on after that and it was drawn out onto the cake board to look like tree roots raising from the ground. and then it looked like they used a fork to make the brown icing look like tree bark. I don't know if this is what you where talking about but it did look really neat.

talmas: Do you mean to do a search on her website and if so how do you do that?

The grooms cake that I am referring to is in the left side column of that page and it says Groom's Cake for Jenny Woosley and Tony McCray.
I am wondering how she made the circles on the top of the tree stump. It looks like maybe she used a paint gun. I am clueless.

This is my first groom's cake order and I am sooooooo nervous.

Any help help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Angela

I meant search the web page of the link I posted. I went ahead and copied what I think you want from the web page below.

Advance planning is essential in making a prize winning cake. This tree stump cake is so much fun and so easy. I like to do a three layer cake for these. I stack a layer and a half and then put in a support cardboard & dowel supports. Layer the other layer and a half. Ice the three layers with a fairly heavy layer of icing. Smooth the top of the tree trunk and make a few root extensions around the bottom of the tree trunk. Now take a fork and starting at the top rough up the sides of the tree trunk to resemble bark, using short strokes all around and down the cake sides and extending out on the root extensions. Now the top of the cake should be fairly dry. With a toothpick carve their initials and maybe a heart and arrow into the top. Airbrush or paint those indentions in the top with black. Airbrush some circles on the top of the cake to resemble the year rings on a cut tree. Airbrush the sides of the cake randomly with black and brown airbrush color.

To make those year rings, you can also use the wood graining tool that you can buy at hardware or paint stores. It has rubber on the head and you can make the impression of a fake woodgrain with it. Works well on set buttercream or fondant.
