I am making a 3-d bassinet cake. The base will be oval and for the top, I want to make a gumpaste shell. I formed this over a call ban and it won't come off (not enough corstarch i guess). Any suggestions? I am traveling with it on a plane...

I always use wax paper under mine so that I can get them off.

Try making a new one using a chocolate shell for support. That way if it doesn't come off it's not a big deal.

So sorry about your finger!

I seriously thought it was a legit item I'd never heard of before(other than the box one connects to the phone to prevent unwanted callers...but I haven't heard that item mentioned in forever).

To aid in releasing it from the pan...

What if you got dental floss or fishing line(cleaned, of course) and starting at one edge(either top or bottom...I'd probably go from top to bottom...starting with the most narrow) and keeping the string conformed to the pan...give slight sawing motion while guiding the string to the opposite edge...may help to periodically dust the string, without removing it(like on the outstroke on either side of the sawing motion) with cornstarch.

ETA: oh oh oh...or super thin wire and not using the sawing motion just keep the wire firmly held to the pan while gently guiding it from one edge to the other....
