Hi all, I thought you might be intered in seeing my invention. Everytime I had to work on the side of a cake I could never get it truly eye leve. I told my husband, "I ndd a table high enough that when I work on a cake it is eye level and I can sitll spin it". So we started on what it would take. This table is the result. DIRECTIONS: We weighted the bottom of the cupboard with 2 x 6's screwed on and to put the wheels on (I wanted to be able to move it easily). We used a cabinet because it was ready made and offered extra storage. (the only thing I would have done differently was get the next largest size because it can be tippy when I move it). We attached a swivel kit to the top so it would spin (the part that makes a bar stool set spin. Its 2 metal pieces with ball bearings between them to spin. I got mine a Menards). Next I sat in the chair to measure the height that was needed. We attached the upright pieces to make the height. They are about 6 to 8 inches, remember you have to add the height of the table top. We put cleats on the round top to fit snugly inside the uprights and screwed them to the uprights. That way if the top or the swivel kit gets messed up we can remove it easily and replace. Now when I need to do sides of cakes, it is eye level and I'm not breaking my neck or back.

Here are some pictures of it.
Thanks
Jeanne

LOVE IT!! I just informed my husband that I am expecting a similar invention for my birthday in 2 weeks icon_smile.gif It'd be really great if we could find a base cabinet that would hold a large marble top....

(pondering how to add a hydraulic jack or some other lifting device such as used for pop up/hi-low campers & trap doors so as to make it height adjustable)

(also pondering how to make it so top could be removed and replaced with marble slab)

----
fyi -- if you've got the marble slab -- finding a base cabinet is as easy as measuring the slabs width and length and then going to Lowes, Home Depot or other cabinet purveyor. Even if cabinet is off a tad -- a 3/4" plywood or MDF top will compensate (marble rests on the wood top)

Ooooh! The hydraulic lift would be awesome! I would LOVE to hear any design schemes you come up with. I would like a spinning, hydraulic marble top that extends a bit passed the edge of the cabinet (so I can slide my stool under the top to work)... I dont ask for much, do? icon_biggrin.gif

Neat! I've had my husband design a few inventions out of necessity as well. We keep talking about getting patents...maybe one day.

Thanks everyone, I was hoping others would like this idea. Any modifications you want to do,,, go for it. I would have loved a marble top too, but could not figure out how to attach it.

Peridot, Usually I have my cakes on a cake board so that isn't an issue for me, but if I need to I just put a clear plastic cover, I have that is clear plastic table cover so its food grade.

Deijha, that's awesome!! I've been trying to figure out how to get a rolling cart for my kitchen and cake stuff without spending hundreds of dollars. I think I'm going to go check out prices of cabinets and add wheels onto it! Thanks for the idea!!!

Wow! Excellent idea! You can also put a floor length tablecloth and a lamp on it to use in another room if you need to save space in the kitchen. Well done!

Yes it can be wheeled around most anywhere you like. I think the cabinet cost like $29.00 and the round was about that also, and the swivel and wheels where the only other expense, we had the other wood left over from other projects. I also like it because I can stand at it to place items on cakes without bending over. The older I get the less I like to bend and hunch over LOL.
