icon_confused.gif Help! I need a fast idea on a cake for an orthopedic surgeon. They requested something like a fractured bone on top of a sheet cake that will feed 20-30 people? Any creative ideas?? I looked an looked and can't find one single similar cake.

If you can find an x-ray photo on the internet, and this should really be easy, make a search of fractured whatever kind of bone and you will likely come up with an orthapaedic surgeon site with x-rays. Then using gumpaste or fondant with a hardening additive, just shape or mold out the bone by copying the picture. You may need to put in wooden dowels to hold the shape and you will need to dry for a long time, depending on how thick the fondant is.
Or you could do an edible image or get one done at a local bakery. Or youd can reverse the image of the x-ray and do a buttercream transfer.

The leg bone's connected to the hip bone... the arm bone's connected to the shoulder bone.. corny I know!!! but when you said that, I thought of that old song that you sing what bone is connected where icon_biggrin.gif If you had airbrush or could get some of the Wilton spray, you could make it look like an x-ray of a broken bone on a cake .. just a thought icon_biggrin.gif

check out the pet department for a plastic one to copy in fondant. most fractures orthopedic sx are going to fix will be multiple as in lots of pieces so you could have a it broken in a couple of places.
or you could do a long bone with some screws and wires wrapped around them- grey fondant again, maybe dont forget some nice pinky red colour for the bone marrow in the middle! thumbs_up.gif

Thanks! thumbs_up.gif I'll do the search. Fondant is a good idea. I thought of the buttercream transfer but it would be my first one and I don't think this would be a good one for practice.

Thank you all. You guys are the best. The screws are actually something they asked for too so I'll definitely look for that. I appreciate all the help and I'll post the pics if it turns out half-way decent! icon_smile.gif
