Hi everyone. I'm doing a fondant cake next month and would like to apply stenciling. I've never done it before so I need some help.

First, do you know any good sources for stencil designs, particularly flower and the like.

Second, if I were to make my own stencil, what medium should I use to cut out from that would be most effective?

Third, what type of icing is used? I'm assuming something like piping gel? Do you know any commercially available product or a good recipe that has a great consistency for stenciling? I'd like the end result as if the pattern were just slightly raised (at first I thought of using impression mats but abandoned that idea after finding out that I had to smooth out the fondant with my hands, so decided on stenciling).

Any help / suggestions / ideas would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

I've purchased a few stencils from Deisgner Stencils (http://www.designerstencils.com). They are food safe, and you can use them with RI or BC. They take some getting used to, and you have to have the consistency of your icing just right, but you can get a wonderful effect if you practice! HTH!

I did the white cake with black designs in my photos with a stencil and royal icing!

Amanda, your white/black cake is gorgeous! When you stenciled on that cake, did you just paint through the stencil w/RI like you would paint?

I'm really nervous about the consistency of the icing. That could really make or break things.
