I have been asked to make a guitar cake for a groom which I do not have a problem doing excpet for one thing. I don't have an airbrush tool and the cake the bride is requesting should look like her fiance's guitar which is a black one that gradually blends into orange and then yellow. I explained to her that I do not have the proper tools to achieve the desired look and she didn't mind. She doesn't seem very picky about it looking exactly the same. BUT I guess I am and would like to know if there is any way to get that blended color look using buttercream. Anyone ever done anything like that with any success?
I guess its possible to make the different colored buttercreams and ice the guitar that way, and then carefully blend the "transitional" parts with a small spatula. Maybe practice on a board first???
Ditto above.
You can get airbrush in a can I think...

Oh yeah! That too....practice that too though, the cans are hard to control I think, if you need multiple colors.
On my Harley cake in my gallery, I piped some flames by adding some red buttercream over the orange, then blending with a hot/wet spatula. It didn't show up too good in the pic and then I also went over with the airbrush. But you can create this effect with butter cream only. Good luck.
