My daughter's birthday is Saturday..I am making her a castle cake. I am hoping to have it completed tomorrow. I generally prefer my cakes cold...what is the best way to refrigerate a cake that is to big for an airtight container? I don't want the buttercream to obsorb any odors from the fridge...anyone have any ideas? icon_sad.gif

Well, I use moving boxes and you can then seal the box in either a huge clear leaf waste bag or an unscented green garbage bag or even wrap painter's plastic drop cloth and tape it all around to seal in the box.
Moving boxes are fairly cheap and come in a variety of sizes. Cut down the front sides and re-tape so you can get easy access to the cake. Line the box with rubberized shelf liner so the cake doesn't shift while moving it around. If the box is too high, cut it down and then use foil taped to the top to seal the box and then bag it.
How big a box do you need?

Thank you...I think I will just get a moving box and try it...I could leave it out but I have cats....and a daughter who can find a cake from a mile away...lol. This way I don't have to wait till Saturday in the middle of getting everything else ready. Thank you again.

Heehee, well putting some pieces of loose tinfoil over the closed up box will keep the cats away likely, but unless your daughter is afraid of tinfoil, haha, you are out of luck!
Hhmn, how did I know about the tinfoil, haha!

I have her pretty much taken care of...she won't know what it is in the box but I hope she will not get that close...have the child gate on the entrance to the kitchen.

i have a fridge just for my cakes, but before that i used have one of those mini dorm fridges, and what i would do is anything that was odor ladden would go in that, so there would be room for the cake.
