How do I make cupcakes to look like christmas ornaments. Is there a certain way to make them more rounded or a certain pan? I believe they use fondant to cover or will it look just as nice with BC? Please help if you can. I am making these for our office christmas party. icon_biggrin.gif

I know some people use the half ball pan from wilton and fondant. I too have questions about these cupcakes. How do you get the fondant so smooth around the base of the dome? Also, I tried to makes these and thought that the fondant got to dry. Can that happen? This was my first time making these and I thought I could do them much better. I would like to make these for my kids teacher next month so I have time to practice.

Thanks

I just spent a while searching the web for pictures. I bought the half-ball pann too. This week I'll have to do some practice runs on decoratin them since I do treats for our biggest clients every Christmas and wanted to do some fun ornament cupcakes this year. I'll post pics when I get some done!

You can use bc, just smooth it with a roller (Melvira Method). I smooth my bc this way before I put the fondant on so I know it will work.
I also don't have the ball pan I made my own pans using foil and ball as a mold, and then put the pans in a muffin tin to bake , this way I could bake 4 dozen at a time ,worked out perfectly.

Some people have also bought the clear plastic round ornaments from Michael's or Joanns and used those with chocolate. They then pop them out after setting up and use those for the tops as well.

I just made ornament cupcakes yesterday for a friend. I have the book "Hello Cupcakes and the instructions to make them rounder was to just mound the buttercream frosting on the top a little. It worked pretty good. I know you were interested in fondant but this worked out pretty darn good.

CakeMommyTX - I just love your idea of using foil and making a ball impression. Great idea to bake 4 dozen at one time - now you've got me thinking of other shapes to use this on. Thanks for the great tip!!!
