I wonder how many I'll need? How will I hide the styrofoam? ETC... I think I'm in big trouble
The following is a tight rounded mound method and can be used with either silk or fresh:
Cut floral foam so it is approximately 2 inches above the container, with the top center of the foam being the highest. Make sure the foam sits securely and fills the whole bowl. You may have to use and cut multiple blocks of foam to wedge pieces in place, get the foam as close to the edge as possible. Cut the flower stems to approximately 2 inches and insert them all around the bottom of the foam so they sit on the top edge of the bowl. Then insert a rose directly into the top of the foam. You don't need to insert the all of the stem into the foam. (2 inches of stem allows you to play around abit so you can work your shape.) This is now your shape form to follow The next row you work, insert flowers above and in between the previous rows flower heads you placed around the bottom, making sure they are close enough that the foam won't show. Work your way around and up the arrangement, keeping the floral blossoms in line with the top flower you inserted so you shape a rounded mound. ( hope that makes sense ). Try to use rose heads that aren't bud form as they will try to open and then the arrangement will be to tight. The rose heads need to be semi open to open when you use them. When you are prepping them prior to arranging they should be put in warm water and let them drink for 6 to 8 hours at least. I usually prep flowers for arrangements at 1 to 2 days in advance, depending on the flower type and age of the flower. Hope I haven't confused you. I've my floral portfolio website link by my name. Oops forgot to add how many you'll need... measure the circumference of the bowl's top edge. Figure 2 inch width per flower for that bottom row. Each row after will use one or two less. It's always better to have extra in case the head breaks off or you cut the stem wrong, so this is just a guide. You can always use any extra roses to decorate the table by pulling off the petals and scattering them.
Get some silk ones and do a dry run with those...that should tell you aprox. how many you will need.
