Oh and I love your roller, it makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only one with stained rollers...
LOL That was my very first thought when I saw the roller! Great job on the tutorial jammjenks
I've done camo, but with Viva. I start in the center of the top of the cake, and I make the random shapes go over the edges of the cake. It's still easy to smooth, but you don't need the border because the shapes continue from the top to the sides.
Thanks for posting the tutorial! I've had people ask how I did the camo, but I never felt like I could adequately explain it! Great photos!
Here's mine: http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1399848
ETA: I also make the inside of the cake camo by coloring the cake batter!

You're welcome everyone. Just glad I could help someone out.

That's a great idea! How do you do that? Do you drop blobs of colored batter into the pan? It looks really cool!

Yep, pretty much! It's just like making a marble cake, only you don't marble it. I just plop spoonfuls of colored batter in the pan, trying to keep the colors separate.
Great camo tutorial! I love it because I don't use fondant much right now. Thank you!
sugar shack has a fondant camo tutorial on her website!! sugaredblog.blogspot.com and search camo hat HTH!!
Thanks so much for this tutorial. I saw it a few months ago and finally got a chance to try it for my brother's birthday cake(pic in my album). We're a big military family, so my Grandfather was extremely impressed. I can't wait to do it again!
thank you for the tutorial... I use it for a cake for my sone and it worked like a charm....
i'm having a lot of trouble with this technique. iput the 4 different colors on a crumbcoated cake, but everytime i try to roll over them with a foam roller, the icing sticks and smears. any tips?? thanks
