I really don't understand this 1M tip. If I go to wilton site, as 1M they have this: No. 2110 (1M) Open Star Decorating Tip 402-2110 that is completely different from the one used to make those beautiful big swirls. I see also that in their 12 Piece Cupcake Decorating Set there is the "right" 1M tip. So my question is: is there a way to by just that tip? I am Italian and Wilton does not sell to Italy, so I have to buy on other sites. How can I make myself understood in order not to buy the wrong tip? Thanks a lot.

The 1M open star is the same tip. That's what I have (I didn't buy the cupcake kit) and it makes great swirls.

But they look so different, don't they?
I'm looking for a swirl like this: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3442/3202664735_003493ce0e_b.jpg

I bought a 1M tip and i love it, here is an example of some cupcakes i did with it, these were done with a firm icing:

http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1505848

These were done with a softer icing:

http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1444355

Sorry they are the only examples i have to show. I also included what the tip i bought looks like, all it says on the side is Wilton 1M

Elise, thank you so much for the image!! So I'm even more puzzled as at Wilton site this is the 1M tip, and it is TOTALLY different from the one showed by you and that I'd like to purchase

This I don't understand: are there 2 types of 1M?
Where can I look for a tip like yours?

i know i looked at the wilton website and it came up with that one too and when i searched google images and that is all i get too, very confusing.

I just found out about the tip by asking people what they use and then just went to my local decorating store and asked for a 1M and they gave me that one i use.

I'm sorry i can't be of more help locating one for you i'v looked to and i can't find one, a mystery it is to me too, but i am sure you can buy it somewhere!

actually maybe the wilton image may be more misleading cose i found this one on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-Wilton-STAR-TIP-2110-1M_W0QQitemZ370283395364QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item56369c3924

and even though it doesn't look as deep as my one it is deeper than what their image portrays

I like using the 'drop flower' type of tube - makes the swirls with the deep ridges - and also good for the swirl that looks like a rose (piping from inside to out)

http://www.wilton.com/store/site/product.cfm?id=3E30C43E-475A-BAC0-5A98A942A7BBD164&fid=3E33259E-475A-BAC0-55E3E367DCB3BBD1

They look like an asterisk on top - pick the 2C or 2D or similar

Isn't that tip close to the Wilton 2D? Maybe that one would be easier for you to find....I use that one all the time on my cup cakes and the end results look close to the one previously posted. Just a thought. icon_rolleyes.gif

???

Do you go from the outside in??
or the inside out to make the pretty swirl??

Thanks for letting me hijack the thread!

When you purchase the 1M tip from Wilton you get the same tip that Elise87 has shown in her picture, not the one shown by maghina, I don't know why the picture from the Wilton site looks different, I bought three of them and I got the original 1M.

gormetsharon~ For the swirl outside in. If you want to make a rose it's inside out![/quote]

Hi there, I live in the UK. I recently found an Ateco (American made icing tip) in a small shop. I think you may find that it is easier to find Ateco brand than Wilton.

This is the closest I could find to the Wilton 1M in the photo submitted in this thread. Unfortunately, it is a group along with all large icing tips.

http://www.cooking-good.co.uk/extra-large-11-piece-piping-set-653-p.asp

Look at the tip on the upper left of the photo and I think that is similar. If it is bigger, no problem, the results will still be as pretty.

What do you think?

Hope it helps!

Maghina!

I think I found something and it's only 99p!

http://cakestuff.bpweb.net/22-piping-tube-open-9-point-star-p-414.html

They call them piping tubes or nozzles, that's why I had a hard time finding Wiltion "tips" as we call them in America.

The Wilton 1M has a 6 pointed star tip. The Ateco 6 pointed star tip is too small to get the same effect as the large Wilton. You will need to go with a 9 point to get the same size as the 1M.

Hope this helps! thumbs_up.gif [/b]

Hi maghina, I think the cupcake picture you have posted is done with a large petal tip, not a star tip. The cupcake looks perfect!
