I want to make a wrestling ring cake for my sons birthday next week. I found lots of pics here to help with ideas. I have one quetion and I am hoping someone here can help me. What do you use to make the posts and the strings that go around the ring? This will be my first attempt at something like this. Thanks so much.
I used dowels that I colored black with my food markers. I bought some red string and used for the rope.
You could use dowels and shoestring licorice. Or if you want it completely edible you could try pretzel rods.
I used the individually wrapped hard candy sticks that come in different flavours. I unwrapped them and covered them in black fondant for the posts. I tried red shoestring licorice once for the ropes but found it difficult to tighten it around the ring, so I used red ribbon the next time.
in my pics.. i used dowels that i painted black.. then red pipe cleaners.. worked great.. i glued the piped cleaners on with royal icing..
I like the pipe cleaner idea. They would stay nice and straight. I'll have to remember that if I do this cake again.
Since all the stores are stocking up with Christmas stuff - what about the straight endsof candy canes? You can get them in just about any color
I used pretzels covered in black fondant for the posts and dyed spaghetti red with food coloring for the string.
I tried to dye shaghetti once and the spaghetti didn't stay straight. How did you do it? Yours looks really good. I'd like to be able to use this method.
Thanks so much everyone for all of the wonderful ideas. I think I am going to make one this weekend just to try it out and see what works best. That way I will know what I am doing next weekend.
