How About A Serious Thread About Cake Balls? - Page 88

I made a cake ball that had the taste of a chocolate we have in Brasil which is where I'm from. It is basically chocolate filled with brandy and cherries still with the pit in it. So I took choc cake and baked it. The night before, I had taken maraschino cherries and cut them up into small pieces and soaked them in brandy in a container. Next day after I baked my cake and crumbled it up, I took the cherries and strained them, reserving the brandy in a bowl. Added the cherries to the cake and frosting and tasted if it was good with brandy flavoring. If not, I added just a bit of brandy at a time until I got it the way I wanted it to taste. Then coated the balls in choc bark and while still wet, I put some red edible glitter sprinkles. It was very delicious. But I think I need to add more cherries or you can add a half or whole one.

As for the price, I charge $20.00 for a dozen, $18.00/doz for 2-5 doz and $15.00/doz for 6 or more doz. And my balls are medium size or 1.50".

Doesn't allow me to post pic.

But you can post your photos in the "my photos" section and paste a link here! Come on, friend, we're dying to see them. They sound delicious!

Hi Marianna, I tried but I keep getting a page telling me it isn't working. Is the photo supposed to be a certain size. I would love to post a pic. And also, I can't seem to put my own avatar on there either.

Going to try one more time.

Hi KMKakes, it doesn't even give me the option to upload a pic for my avatar and I tried to upload a pic to my photos and nothing again.

I was going to say that when my photos won't load, I go to www.shrinkpictures.com to reduce the size (I usually choose 600 pixels) and the problem goes away. I guess you figured that out! If you want to post a link here in a forum, just copy the photo's address that's up at the top of the page and paste it into your post. Avatars are apparently a separate problem - people have been complaining for a few months that they can't put them up. Btw, I'm originally from Houston, I've been to Brazil a couple of times and actually studied Portuguese for a few years, so we kind of have a lot in common - besides our love of cake balls! Oh, yes, I didn't see your previous post until just now: Bailey's and Kahlúa aren't the same thing. Kahlúa is a coffee-based liqueur (like Sambuca?) and Bailey's is something like Irish whiskey with cream in it. I'm personally not thrilled with the taste of Kahlúa by itself (although it works remarkably well with chocolate cake!), but I could drink gallons of Bailey's if it weren't for budget (and other - i.e., waistline) restrictions!

Never mind - I just googled Sambuca and I see it's something entirely different!

Thanks to this thread that I was able to make peppermint cake balls for my husband company pot luck last year for Christmas. They were a big hit... Instead of regular chocolate, I use chocolate mint chips for the coating.

Here is my latest cake pop creation made from brownies with coconut, pecan bits and crushed candy cane mixed into the cake and frosting mixture. The coconut, pecans and candy cane were added after the cake was baked and crumbled. Then I coated the balls in chocolate bark and sprinkled more candy cane pieces on top. It was just right for me, not too pepperminty.

your's turned out so pretty, how do you get the chocolate to cool smoothly. I always end up with clumps or swirl marks and stuff....

Thanks Bettyn. I don't know, I guess I just get as much coating off as possible and then I kind of turn it slowly and get a swirl. And gently put the pop down. But I do have a swirl on all of my pops. Can't seem to get away from it. Sorry this isn't much of an answer.
