What Do You Charge For Sheet Cakes?
Decorating By sugarMomma Updated 11 Nov 2009 , 8:45pm by FromScratch

Are they the same as regular cakes per serving? I am making a 2 layer, 12x27 with fondant accents for my manager, so of course I will probably be practically giving it away as usual, but was wondering what do you normally charge in case I feel bold...

When you say sheet cake do you mean the 1 layer no filling, or the 2" high one with filling, or the one that is like a regular 4" high cake?

for the 9 by 13 single layer $40
12 by 18 $90
18 by 24 is $175
and my prices still need some work as they are not up to par

Thank you for asking this question. Again, so much useful information given. Thanks, everyone!

I charge $50.00 for my 9x13...$90.00 for my 11X15 and $110.00 for my 13x18

Thanks everyone. I am making a 2 layer, 4" with strawberry fillling iced in buttercream and the top covered in fondant to look like a football field. I will have two fondant jerseys on top and fondant fall leaves at the base and wasn't sure how to price it. I know it should be more than a regular sheet cake since it will be more complicated, but wasn't sure how much more.
I hope they aren't expecting a regular sheet cake price, but they know my work and I told them I don't really do sheet cakes. Rounds are so much easier to ice, but I don't think they want a tiered cake for their wedding rehearsal groom's cake.
We all work together in high-end banquets, so they should understand. I just can't shake that guilt when I charge my peers, even when I severely undercharge which is the norm. Usually I only cover the cost of my ingredients and hopefully any new toys.

Well it sounds like a standard serving size of cake and it comes with a standard serving size price. Anything with fondant starts at $4 per serving.Don't care is it's "shaped" like a sheet cake, it ain't a sheet cake. And what Jaime said too. I only feel guilty if I do something wrong. My closest & bestest friend who I would give a kidney for (seriously) and would even make a cake for free, doesn't even ask me to make a cake for free or even cost. In fact she said,"I want to order a cake for you from you, but I can't afford your prices". I love her.

Guilt is an admission of wrong doing. Need to change your language, and maybe the feelings will change too. Are you guilty of doing something wrong??
Wow! Never thought of guilt like that. But it makes alot of sense!

It really does.

What you are making really isn't a sheet cake. It's a regular layer cake shaped like a rectangle. So you don't even need to think sheet cake when you price. A sheet cake is a single layer with no filling... just frosted and about 2" tall. Once you are adding filling and a second layer... that is a regular old cake with regular prices.
And here-here Jamie...
