Using Ribbon On Cake Question - Help Please
Decorating By charleezgal Updated 3 Nov 2009 , 2:41am by playingwithsugar
I am putting 1 inch ribbons on the bottoms of each tier of a 3 tier cake.
Do you put a border on first and THEN place the ribbon just above it? Or, do you omit the border altogether since the ribbon will be there?
Would love to see pictures of both to see the differnce. Please share your pictures or ideas with me. Thanks CC'ers!
I put the ribbon on the cake and then put on a border. The border seems to hold the ribbon tighter against the cake.
Do you mean that you put the ribbon at the very bottom of the cake and then put the border over it? Do you have any pictures of how that looks?
Thanks a bunch!
Go to my photos and look at the red roses and callas wedding cake I did for last weekend.
First I ironed waxed paper onto the back of the ribbon, to prevent contact with the cake. Then I attached it with gum glue (gumpaste mixed with water, then melted for about 20 seconds in the microwave). I held it in place with sterilized steel straight pins until it was time for assembly. I took each ribbon just a hair's width below the board, so it didn't show through when assembled.
