Thanks for letting us know! I'd like to see a tut on preparation before piping. I was having problems sizing and stuff. So i'd love to see the steps from finding an image to getting it into the projector to be clear enough to see.
I wish kopykake would have better instructions on how to use their projectors....

Thanks for the info. that is big... I'm not sure I can justify the cost and the storage space... especially since I'm just a hobbyist...as much as I'd love to have one.....

The k1000 is pretty hefty in size. From top to bottom, it measures about 3 feet. The light box is approximately 12" wide, 6" tall, and 6" deep. I store mine in the basement, so I have to lug it up the stairs every time I want to use it. But it's worth it! I wouldn't know what to do without one.

Bonnie, I'm a hobbyist too! The cost is definitely a consideration, but if there's any way you can swing it, go for it! You'll use it constantly and I doubt you'd regret buying one.

I just got my Kopykake 1000 today and was shocked at how big it was! I'm going to have to decorate my cookies sitting on the floor because I don't think I have enough counter space right now to manage.

I just used mine for the first time today. This might be a silly question, but has anyone ever tried to use fluorescent bulbs in the Kopykake? It gets so darn hot under there with the incandescent bulbs!

All righty, I need help! icon_biggrin.gif I got the beast all set up (I got the K1000, so I call it the beast) icon_lol.gif and I'm having some difficulty with (of all things) shadows!!! I got the baseboard model and I'm projecting down onto a cookie and when I go to pipe the image I'm working in my own hand shadow. icon_confused.gif What gives??? It seems like the light is projecting straight down where the image is but that's also where my hands need to be to pipe. So the question is, what am I doing wrong?

I'm having the same problem as bobwonderbuns, and I'm about ready to chuck my projector out the window! I've tried moving it around, moving myself around, standing up, sitting down, twisting my hand/arm around... all to no avail.
I'm trying to make some superman logo cookies for a friend's grandson's birthday, and I can't get it traced because of this!
Help, please! Does anyone have any tips?!

Thanks!

You have to learn how to work slightly off-center. It takes a bit of practice to catch on to the best ways to use it, but I LOVE my projector. For cookies, I rarely pipe directly onto the cookie. I will use the projector so I can draw the design onto the cookie, then decorate once they're all drawn.

Thank you, GeminiRJ... your suggestion really helps. It's so much easier to draw with a marker because you can pick it up if you need to. I'm going to try this for the Superman cookies.

Thanks again!

Thats also what I do - trace on with an edible marker and then put the projector away. Then pipe designs on

For Madison Art use Code 4 for 4% off (that's the max they allow.)

I decorate cookies also. I bought a printer 2 yrs ago. It has been great, I can copy logo's for people, pix, clip art. I just recently got a projector. I've only used it a couple times so far. It allows me to copy pictures that I can't freehand. At this point for me the printer has been perfect, becausewith a projector I could never do the logo's and the pix customers ask for. I guess it depends on what your customers have been asking for. Hurry up and get one of them, so you can start saving for the other.
Good Luck

What kinds of orders are you getting? If you get lots of logos, you are better off with a printer. In my area it's just cheaper for me to get the occasional edible image printed up at the local cake shop. But if you want to do any kind of graphic art image transfers, you're better off with a projector.

Bought myself a Kopykake 1000K for my birthday. Ok, the bday isn't untill the 14th but hey, I want it here and up and going on that day icon_lol.gif
It shipped out today and I just can't wait to play. It is used and I got it off of eBay for a fraction of the cost retail.

For those of you that use it do you have any tips or tricks to share with me? Please???? icon_biggrin.gif

I just bought some small squeeze bottles with the interchangeable tips and I have lots of brushes...what else might I need??
thanks thumbs_up.gif

I trace the design onto the cookie with the help of the projector, then do the decorating as usual. I don't like to spend a ton of time under the lamp. So you could invest in a nice set of Americolor food markers. They come in 10 different colors, and work great. If the idea of using a graphite pencil on cookies doesn't bother you, they work great and are obviously a whole lot cheaper! The graphite is "a completely natural substance that is neither toxic or harmful when ingested". Just make sure it's not an artist's lead pencil!

I got mine (K1000) several months ago off of Craigs List. I've had lots of interest in my wedding stick figure cookies... they're different and not something you'd see every day. I'm doing 150 for a wedding in October (stick figure b&g on a motorcycle) and 200 next July (b&g walking their dog). I can't draw, not even stick figures!, so my projector has really come in handy! Here's a few other samples I've done...
