Painting Luster Dust

Can you "paint" luster dust onto icing or does it have to be fondant???? Which would work better for a water feature on a cake piping gel or putting blue luster dust over blue icing?????

I'm not sure of how to do it on buttercream... on fondant, I think you could paint it .. on buttercream, I'd do the gel tinted blue.

thats what i thought. would fondant painted with blue luster dust even look like water????

I don't think it would look like water ~ Just shiny blue icing representing water. The piping gel would look "wet" like water.
