I'm making a birthday cake for my aunt (turning 60). I wanted something whimsical and fun, but it needs to survive a 2 hour drive. Would a single tier crooked, tapered cake look dumb? I was inspired by the pictures in this post:

I wanted to do a round cake that tapered, then I was figured why not slant the top as well? Can anyone link examples of this? Or is would it look silly all by itself with no other tiers to go all topsy turvey with!

I did one last year, and I also worried about it looking silly, but when all was said and done I really liked it.

Another way to make a small TT cake is to use the MagicMold (aka: doll skirt pan or Wonder Mold). When it comes out of the oven the wide top is usually turned onto a cake board/plate; but for a TT cake use it just the way it bakes - with the small end on the board.

See if you can find JenWhitlock's blog (I don't have the link right now..). She has some really cute single tier TTs. I think they can look nice, but they need to be tall enough - 5-6 inches. Short, squat TTs don't look good.
