How Can I Make Curious George Look Realistic

I want to make a Curious George cake for my son's 2nd birthday. How can I make Curious George look very realistic? I've seen pictures of Curious George cakes with buttercream frosting and using a star tip but I'm looking to make him more realistic and smooth looking. It doesn't have to be buttercream idea/technique. Does anyone have any ideas or techniques I could use?
I made the one in my cake with chocolate but it's not very realistic, if you need it to be exactly like the cartoon maybe you can do it out of color flow or a FBCT using a image of it. Good luck!
How so? "Realistic" is a variable term. You mean it should look just like the cartoon or should it look like a real monkey?
Is this a flat design or a character perched on the cake?
Sounds like you could do fondant cut out if you want a flat image. Print out a shot of George from the videos or internet, trace the shapes, cut out the color pieces, layer or insert, then pipe some black/brown icing around to line the fondant if it isn't looking too good on its own.
He only has 4 colors: brown, tan, white, black. Your black should be icing, and white is a natural fondant color, so you just need to outline and cut two tones of brown fondant, and two circles of white fondant.
I agree with the "realistic" part. He is a cartoon character. When I did him, (in my pics) I traced an outline, carved the cake out, covered the whole head in chocolate fondant, then placed cut out fondant placque pieces to make his facial features and outlined his face in the black fondant. I only did the face though, not his body. It was a two layer 1/2 sheet I carved this out of.
If you're doing a flat George from fondant, use a black food coloring marker to draw on the black outlines. I've got a picture of one I did in my photo gallery.
