Hi -
A friend sent me the image to make the cake for her kids birthday. I am not sure how to make the Kitty in the attached image. I am thinking of using MMF but the head seems so big that is might just collapse the body. Should i put a piece of cardboard under the head?
Any help would be appreciated.
All tips on how to make the kitty would be lovely too!
You can use a lollipop for the center of the head, and build the shape around it. That's how I made Hello Kitty. The lollipop stick acted as support for the head. You could also use a wooden skewer and build the shape up over several days so it had a chance to dry.
Also, I think gumpaste would be better...I made mine with MMF and it took a week to dry, even with the lollipop as a center.
You could also try sculpting the head out of Rice Krispy Treats, and then covering that with fondant. The RKT are a lot lighter and will stand up more easily.
I was going to say what MrsNancyB said. Shape it out of RKT, cover in white chocolate to get it smooth, then cover with fondant.
I made a much smaller Hello Kitty and used a piece of spaghetti for support. I think for a Hello Kitty that size I would do like TexasRose said and use lollipop sticks or skewers. I did use spaghetti for the whiskers and painted them black. That worked well. Good luck.
