Does anyone have the diredtions for making the bloody fingers for halloween? I have most of it figured out...I know they are made with nfsc, almond fingernails and red piping gel, but I dont know if you bake the almonds on the cookies or attach them after they bake.

These have been a tradition at Halloween for me for the last 10 yrs. I don't think the neighborhood kids would ever let me get away just candy anymore. (Fortunately, ours is a close neighborhood where such is still appreciated). I have had little kids too fearful to take one without the parent's assurance, they look so spooky. I put a little personal touch to mine: I cut the base flat with a knife and after baking I coat it with red gel. When that dries, I pipe a bead of crusting white BC and when no longer sticky, press it flat. Voila! A severed, bloody finger with bone showing! Have fun!

I made these last year and they were a hit!! I like using the sliced almonds better than the whole..I think they look more like a nail...(just my opinion!! icon_smile.gif

I haven't used whole almonds either, I buy them whole, then have to blanch, skin, and split in half. That's a whole lot of work, but the result is so much more realistic. I do a bunch then freeze what I don't use until next year. I haven't seen good almond halves on the shelf or I would certainly use them. They look so realistic it makes me want to give them a good manicure! What a gross thought.
