Oh 1 last thing I don't know how many kit kats I use because I used those Halloween 2 to a pack ones and I bought a ton at the after Halloween sales for like $1.50 a bag so hit up a candy sale if you see candy barrels in your future icon_smile.gif They are good for at least a year if kept in a cool dry environment thumbs_up.gif

Andrea, thank you so much. I have been checking everyday hoping you would post your recipe. It sounds absolutely delicious icon_razz.gif (where's the drooling smiley when you need it?) and looks amazing when sliced into. I can't wait to try it! icon_biggrin.gif

Looked everywhere for the pink M&M's for my dd and finally found them at CVS at $3.99 a bag!!! I didn't know how many to get so I bought 3 just in case (they only had 4 bags). Buying the kit kats today...this is going to be one expensive little cake! I will be making my cake on Friday and was wondering if a 6" takes 8 kit kats and an 8" takes 10, wouldn't a 10" take 12? Should I get 15 just in case? Thanks!

Loved looking at the candy barrel cakes yall have in your photos. I have an idea to cut down on cost a little. You could use wafer cookies. $1.00 a pack at the dollar store. They come in vanilla,(off white color)chocolate & strawberry(pink). The pink would be so cute for a girl or easter cake, valentines. Some of you may know the cookies i am speaking about. You break them apart just like you would a kit kat.

I'm gonna have to try this icon_biggrin.gif

That's a good idea. icon_biggrin.gif

I used to eat those vanilla ones like there was no tomorrow! My favorite ones were the ones Winn Dixie used to have in the deli/bakery section.....not all wafer cookies are created equal, lol. Now that Winn Dixie is gone, I have yet to find one I like as much as theirs icon_sad.gif .

I have thought of using those since the pirouette/pirouline cookies I like to use are so expensive. I have thought the wafers to be too short, though. Has anyone used them before, and are they tall enough for a 2 layer cake?

well here is the way mine came out, I fell in love with the idea and had to try it, I made it for a friend of my grand daughter she was 16 last week but I just had to try it and she loved it and so did my grand daughter. It was so easy and the 16 is 50/50 fondant/gumpaste.

wanted to mention that the kit kats that come in snack size or 2 to a pack are not as tall as the ones you buy in the 4 to a pack. i did a 10" 2 layer and used about 11-12 full size packs which was pretty expensive but i'm going to try it now with the snack size and tort a 1 layer, if it's not tall enough, i'm going to try the cookie or maybe even thin brownie between the chocolate torted layers. i'll update you by friday!

Looks great tatorchip!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Can't wait to see it pupandbon. I'm making mine Friday too. I went ahead and bought 15 full size bars, so hopefully that is enough for a 2 layer 10".

I've also been wanting to do one of these. For those of you who have done them before - do you have any problems with the chocolate of the kit kats melting from the warmth of your hands as you apply them to the cake? I was considering freezing them first to try and prevent that.

Thank you and I used right at 12 full bars and mine was 2 layer 9"

I broke all of my kitkats apart and let them sit awile and then put around my cake and worked fast and they didn't melt on me and I live in Louisiana. I didn't want to put in fridge or freezer because I didn't want them to sweat. I colored my bc brown (tan) so it wouldn't show under m/m or between the kitkats. What did show looked like peanut butter.HTH

Thank you for posting the recipe. I can't wait to try the cookie cake. I'm going to do the barrel cake for fathers day. My husband loves chocolate and kitkats. What a perfect cake! Oh and I love the idea of the wafers. I wonder if it's tall enough.
