need to do a cake for a homecoming dinner working with the theme "all roads lead to rome". am thinking of doing a roman laurel wreath out of cupcakes. any suggestions on how to get those leaves really looking like laurel leaves? i thought the kids might like chocolate leaves, but may be hard to get the look i want. if i go to gumpaste/fondant what particular leaf mold would you use? thanks so much

I'd use either gumpaste or fondant or probably a 50/50 mixture. I'm not sure what a laurel leaf looks life offhand but you could try the oak leaf, the holly leaf or the maple leaf cutters (depending on how close one of them is to a laurel leaf.) Hope that at least gives you a starting point! icon_biggrin.gif

I think a rose leaf mold would be closer - think of the wreaths they use for olympic athletes - those are very simple leaves. A laurel leaf is a simple shape - it's a little narrower than a rose leaf - but I don't know if there is a mold for it. You could do the rose leaf and then trim a little on the sides to make it more narrow.
If you want to do chocolate - you could try chocolate modeling clay.

Sure you can! And if you have problems with that just make them out of white chocolate clay and lustre dust them.
