how many flavors to bring to bridal expo?

How many different flavors for samples do you sually bring for a bridal expo? How many individual samples do you bring?

Me, I would bring just one flavor otherwise you need to bring one of each flavor for each guest--if there are other cake vendors that could be a sweets overload.

I guess some folks offer more than one flavor but my motto is keep it simple.

You need to bring enough for however many folks are expected.

Do you usually bring enough for people to have seconds and thirds...that is what the expo coordinator told me to do. 600 people expected...thats a massive amount of cake.

My first thought was, "Oh hell no." Omg--I don't have a lot of patience with anything really but especially tastings and stuff. Now they're wanting you to provide seconds and thirds??

What they all can't remember what the first one tasted like? Are they all flavor challenged???

Expo coordinator's got issues here--what's that about.

Oh that's ridiculous! I've done shows where they've expected 500. I've made 250-300 1" squares of cake and I've either run out in the last 15 minutes or brought cake home (and usually brought cake home).

I also only take 1 flavor: white cake with white icing. 1" by 1" squares in lidded cups. And some brides actually share this 1" piece of cake, so they don't have to be big at all. When the bride makes the appt .... THAT'S when she gets to sample 2 or 3 flavors ... not in a walk-by at a bridal show.

Odd woman out. I take at least 3 flavors and sometimes 6. People take 2-4 samples frequently. If 500 people are expected I'd show up with at least 500 samples.


Leftovers generally go to other vendors. That's who you're really there to meet anyway.

I don't think you need to plan for seconds or thirds. At the last bridal show I did I had two flavors of mini cupcakes - lemon and chocolate, both with vanilla buttercream. First of all, I figured everyone would scoop up the chocolate but they took the lemon about 4 to 1. Weird. AND, even though I tried to get everyone to take two, almost no one did. I think a lot of women just don't want to look glutonous.

I took 600 minis to this thing thinking everyone would want two. I gave away about 350. I gave away a boatload of cupcakes to vendors and my Bunco group that night.

It was a lot of work I didn't need to do.

I was planning on three flavors myself. This coordinator also told me that one of the other decorators showed up (at the last one) with a real 4 tiered wedding cake and cut that and another full sheetcake and that went over well...seemed like a suggestion to me...I am NOT bringing a stacked wedding cake to cut while I am trying to talk to brides.

I was going to put them in the portion cups but my friend thinks I chould bring full sheets and they (my two helpers) can cut them their and hand them out fresh. I like the thought of not having to package hundreds of cups but wonder if the people will expect big pieces if the cake is there to cut.

I am already behind on doing my dummies because my dad died so I am feeling very under the gun. Bringin four dummies...enough you think? Sorry to ask so many questions?

Filling the cups is pretty easy, assembly line method. I line the cups up in the container I'm going to transport them in (I use a bussing tub ... a large box will work). Cut the cake into 1" squares. Drop the squares in the cups. Use piping bag to place a blop of icing on top. Slap lids on. Set up 2nd layer of cups on top of these. Repeat.

I can put 300 cups of cake together in a couple of hours this way.

My observation is that brides just want "a bite" at a show. I've been to shows where other cake folks are giving away cupcakes and other vendors check with me to see if I'm giving away cupcakes ".... coz I see a lot of them in the trash can and I wondered if they were yours!"

Depends on how big your table is and if your bringing any extra tables. $ dummies fit on a 7 ft table nicely.

I usually make mini cupcakes...4 flavors with fillings and cream boquet flavord icing. I have had a few ask for a second one as well, but not many. There are other cake vendors there as well so no need to do cake overload. Your more there for a wow factor and offer something the others don't.

Make sure you take a garbage can and have it placed near your table. That was one of the inconviences of my first bridal show and I learned from it. the next one, I took a garbage can!

Personally, I like the mini cupcakes over sheet cakes. They're quick and easy to make, transport well, don't have to be filled or cut, don't require the more expensive plastic lidded containers or forks, are easy to set out as you go so they stay fresh, and you put less plastic in the landfill. What more could a woman want?

Four dummy cakes should be plenty if you set them up as a nice tablescape with the cakes on different levels so they look grander. They don't all have to be three tier, either. You can do a very cool design on a 6 or 8 inch dummy and put it on a tall cake plate. People can still see the technique.

Ummm..... 3 5 tiered and one four tier dummy....also bring a sculpted cake thats actually a cake. I think i may have overdecoratoritice LOL

I only bring one flavor. Chocolate is my most popular flavor, so I bring that, usually with either raspberry or passionfruit filling. Dressing cups, a little square of cake, and then a squirt of filling, lid.

I do it assembly-line style and it goes quickly. I also provide small plastic spoons and have a large trash can available, for those who want to tate the cake right there.

I can't imagine the fuss of serving cake on-site.
