I have seen this amazing cake by Shelly101 and would love to know how this is done. It is amazing!

Whilst I am no where near this level I would love to know how on earth you do this without it falling all over the place.

Why don't you pm her and ask. I have found that most cc ers are very willing to share their secrets.

That is truely one fabulous cake. I'll bet there's a large dowel running straight up all the cakes, to keep them in line. By all means, PM her for the best information.

I'm pretty sure Shelly used the topsy turvy caddy wampus stand by Bronwen Weber. Caljava sells them (there is a cute guy in there).

Thanks Rylan.

It was really bugging me and the BF on how this was done. I have now put it on my xmas list.

Do you know how this is used? Would there be any reason why you could not put a square cake on the round one as long as the board wasnt showing?

Do you have to drill holes into each base board of the cake since the pipe looks wide?

Once again thanks for letting me know Rylan.

I believe you can mix and match plates but you have to buy both square and round stands.

Yes, you would have to make a hole on your cake board as well as to your cakes so the pipes can go through. Make sure you tape the board (from cake) to the plates of the stand, that way it doesn't slide.

As for the square cakes on round plates, I guess it can be done although you may get problems with the cake bending (if the cake is too big).

Or you might could use 1/4" foam core instead of a plain cake board under the square & put it on the round plate.

I'm curious. When you have to "core" your cake to fit on these systems, do you need an inner dam (around the inner circle) to hold in your filling? Just wondering how that would work. Not that I would use a slippery filling, but wondering

I usually use a dam for the inner circle when I use buttercream or any type of fillings.

Rylan you are fantastic. Elise87 all is good.

Now I am interested in the cute guy! But since I am in the land of OZ someone will have to post a pic of him for me please icon_biggrin.gif

I usually use wooden boards. Only cardboard for stacked cakes that are sponge or mud cakes.

Rylan since you seem to be the master at hand on this topic. How on earth do you bake a cake with a hole in it. Is it possible to use one of straight pipes to make the hole in the cake and then thread it on? The hole would already be drilled in the cake board.

Hehehe, I wish I had taken a picture of him but I was so occupied to do so.

I suggest you use just cardboard underneath the cake because it sits on the plates anyways.

There are two ways I make the holes. Either I put a heating core in the center before it bakes or I just lay the cardboard (with hole already) on top of the cake (using that as a guide) and then carve out the hole in the center. I then dam, fill and lay my fondant.

years ago wilton sold a cake corer for the tall tier stand. They still might carry this and if they do, i would say it would be perfect for what Rylan is talking about.

I already questioned her on how she did this cake. She did in fact use the Caddy Wampus Cake Stand... you can find it at http://www.caljavaonline.com/cakestudy1.htm
