OK, so I've never used rice krispie treats on a cake and decided to try. I'm in the middle of one as we speak. I have made a large mouth bass, but the RKT are too soft and it won't hold it's shape. icon_sad.gif Any ideas on what I could cover it with to harden it a little? Egg white wash? Meringue powder added to some kind of liquid? I admit that I did not think ahead, but I never ever gave a thought on how to fix it if it was too soft. dunce.gif I need to fix it like now...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated??

Thanks

When I mold large pieces out of RKT I add a little melted chocolate (white) to the mixture when I'm mixing the RKT. It gives a little extra strength to the finished piece.

When I did mine (only tried once so far), after I molded it, I put it in the fridge to harden up for a little while, then I poured some melted chocolate (the melts) over the top and put it back in the fridge to harden some more. Then I frosted like normal. Although, mine was laying flat on the cake board, so I don't know if that would work if it needs to stand up.

When I made my pig's head, I had made RKT from scratch and found, it too, was not holding it's shape. I ended up wrapping it up in some saran wrap to keep it's shape until it cooled completely.

The last few times I've used RKT, I just bought ready made bars (the big ones) and molded out of that. They worked out just fine.

Try the saran/plastic wrap.

HTH!
