I need to make plum colored calla lilies and I'm not sure about the "other" colors. I've seen a lot of yellow for the middle, so I was thinking of doing that but what color do you put on the tip of the lily? A darker plum? And the inside (close to the base) gets brushed with yellow petal dust, right?

I've only made them once before and the lily was yellow with a darker yellow middle and yellow dust inside with green on the tip.

Thanks!!

To create a realistic flower is all about layering the petal dusts (various shades) and steaming.

I would opt to make this flower in off white then dry dust - pink plum purple aubergine and a couple of shades of green for the base of the flower.

I am sure you are right, and if I knew what I was doing then I might try that! But I am using purple fondant for leaves and branches around the base (to match an invitation) so I am afraid that I will not be able to match the color. And honestly, I could do the same thing you suggest with the leaves and branches but I am in a bit of a time crunch b/c I have another cake to do for the following day. So, in light of all that...would you dust yellow in the center? What color on the tip? Thanks for the response icon_smile.gif
