I need to make plum colored calla lilies and I'm not sure about the "other" colors. I've seen a lot of yellow for the middle, so I was thinking of doing that but what color do you put on the tip of the lily? A darker plum? And the inside (close to the base) gets brushed with yellow petal dust, right?

I've only made them once before and the lily was yellow with a darker yellow middle and yellow dust inside with green on the tip.

To create a realistic flower is all about layering the petal dusts (various shades) and steaming.

I would opt to make this flower in off white then dry dust - pink plum purple aubergine and a couple of shades of green for the base of the flower.

I am sure you are right, and if I knew what I was doing then I might try that! But I am using purple fondant for leaves and branches around the base (to match an invitation) so I am afraid that I will not be able to match the color. And honestly, I could do the same thing you suggest with the leaves and branches but I am in a bit of a time crunch b/c I have another cake to do for the following day. So, in light of all that...would you dust yellow in the center? What color on the tip? Thanks for the response
