Edna, received my Tutorial today, fast, fast & faster did it come! I just finished watching and can;t wait to get started. I also ordered the veiner and now just placed an order for the stamen mold and the cel board. Anything to make it easier! Enclosed was a receipe for tylose gumpaste, I usually use the ready made Wilton brand, how does your receipe differ?
Any of you gals made it, and how did you like it?

I have made the tylose Gumpaste, even before I got the DVD, and it works great, you also get a lot out of it, 2lbs I think, I also use the Wilton premade gumpaste, for other sugar flowers, and it works great I think the only difference is that it is cheaper to make it, I could be wrong let,s see if and when she replies what she says.

Yes, is cheaper a bit cheaper. The quality is really good. I have used the one
from Wilton and it works well. But sometimes the package is too hard so I add
some of the Tylose gumpaste to it and makes it more workable. But not to say
that the Wilton pre-made one works bad.
The one I really dislike is the one that you have to make. I dont love the quality.
Bakels gumpaste seems not to dry ever. Satin Ice takes longer to dry.

So that's my experience with gumpaste. Is always good to try, mix and play with them so you know what you prefer.

Hey ladies.........icon_smile.gif I have used both purchased and homemade tylose gumpaste. Ever since the first time of making my own I have never used purchased gp again. The tylose gumpaste is EASY and fast to make. The feel of it, the elasticity of it is superb to all others in my opion.

On a good note; I got my GSA order yesterday which means today is my day to make a complete Stargazer Lily!! Will post pictures here when I have it finished. Don't know if it will be today or tomorrow because of drying time on the gp. icon_smile.gif

Yeah lea, the elasticity is just so good!..Once you try you never want to go back. It tends to dry faster too.
Plus, the tylose is great for fondant when you are making decorations for cakes. Specially in dark colors. Makes it a
bit more harder, you guys know how soft fondant goes with dark colors. Well, if you are making details for a cake, add some tylose to it. It will harden the fondant enough to make bows and delicate details..

Can someone please give me the recipe for this homemade gumpaste made with Tylose? Is this the Nick Lodge recipe? What brand Tylose do you use as there seems to be a difference in the end results with differernt brands from what I have read on CC.

How long can the homemade stuff be stored as I don't do that many cakes.

I have always used the Wilton premade and have been satisified for the most part. It does irritate me when the ends are hard and you have to toss part of it away cosnidering how expensive it is. I feel a little better about the waste if I am using a Michael's coupon.

Thanks

The tylose recipe that Nicolas uses is the one from the tylose company. Is the same one. I have some CK company tylose that I bought to see if there is a difference on the finish product. I am used to use the one from CAI. Wich is a very good one.
The recipe is on my website under the recipe link. And there is a tutorial on youtube on how to make it under tonedna1.

Thanks Edna!! And I love your DVD! I just need to get the veiner from you and then try and find Lime Petal Dust, a scriber and 18 guage wire.

What other company would you suggest to get the petal cutter from if you don't want to use the Wilton one.

Remeber this..wires will change from company to company. I didn't know this until one lady brought me a wire and it was a lot thicker than the wires I use for cake decor. I think it was a florist wire. The wires I use are more for cake decor. They have this nice cover in looks almost like a thread that covers the wire.

Sunflower company has one if I am not wrong. I am about to look for them to see if I can make them available too. It has 2 cutters in it. One for the upper petals, and another for the lower 3.
But I can say, I have the cutter and still use my wilton one..lol

I know I said the Wilton premade Gumpaste is good, I am sorry I hate the premade, they have a 1lb Powder mix, in a can that you have to make, mix it with water it is better, but I do like the Tylose gumpaste it is great, I use nick Lodge's recipe but I use tylose from CK Products, I know the recipe stated a certain brand of tylose, or you have to use less, I used the same amount, and it tasted a little bitter, next time I will use less.

WOW! I must have had my head in a cave somewhere Edna, I had absolutely no idea that you had a DVD out. I was just looking at some pics on google and came across a cake that you did for Let's Eat Cake Competition (gorgeous cake btw) and saw on your site that you had a dvd available. It's now on my wish list along with many other items. Hopefully I can pick it up in the next couple of weeks. I'm so excited for you and me

Edna

I saw this advertised on Sugar Teachers and was planning or placing an order this week.

What cutters do you use?

I have to order some things from GSA and if I need to get cutters too, I'd like to order at the same time and save shipping.

Thanks

I used basic ones from the Wilton Gumpaste Kit. They work just as well. I wanted to make the flower easy for everyone to find the materials.

I have a feeling your dvd is going to be great and do great as well. Lady, I hope you keep blooming out those flower making dvd's... because you are wonderful at doing it in a way that I can understand how to do them.

I wish you nothing best the best with your new dvd and dvd's to come in the future! thumbs_up.gif

O.K. Edna we know Lea and if pausing you with funny faces made her laugh, then yes, I bet she did. icon_lol.gif

All joking aside, yes, do post a picture of the flowers Lea when you are done. Can't wait to see how they turn out, I'm betting they are beautiful!

I am also betting Lea, Edna dvd is awesome and that is easy to follow along with her.
