Wilton Letters & Numbers Gum Past & Fondant Mold Set

Has anyone successfully used this mold with fondant? I tried using this for a cake recently with fondant, and it was disastrous! I dusted the molds well with cornstarch and even popped it in the freezer as instructed, but I just couldn't get the letters to come out. I used fondant with some tylose powder mixed in. I ended up having to pipe the message by hand which is not always a good thing with my writing skills...
I would really appreciate any tips or tricks to working with this!
On another note - I apologize if this is a repeat question. I did try to do a forum search before I posted, but I must be challenged because I got nothing... It's kind of scary since I actually work with computers for a living.
Thanks,
Christy
I haven't had any success with this kit either - I've tried it a few times, and it was a disaster every time. Sorry can't help, but I share your frustration!
I used it a few times - to get them out, I took a hat pin or toothpick and gently stuck it in and lifted it out. It worked - just be careful not to push right through the fondant.
I have issues using their letter cutters. I got it as a gift and this weekend I really need it because it was smaller. After I cut the letters, some of them really looked deformed. When I looked at the cutters, I realized that it was the cutters.
I use mine fairly regularly. I dip the cutters into crisco then use the tip of a toothpick to be sure I get it into any tight spots and to also remove any excess. Sometimes just tapping them will release the fondant just enough for you to "ease" it out the rest of the way. Some letters do easily get misshappen, just be careful and gently push them back into shape once they're out. Sometimes I have to do the same letter several times to get it, but I do like using these.
The mold set was disasterous!!! I should have returned it. It is probablly the worst thing I spent my money on. And forget about gettting the two toned effect! I was thinking of using it with candy melts.....anyone tried it?
