best recipe for carving a cake

Hello, I want to make a shoe box cake and a matching purse cake for my goddaughters birthday. She loves chocolate. What is the best recipe to use ? I was thinking of using a chocolate pound cake recipe, but , I dont want a dry cake. Please advise.

The best cakes for sculpting I've found are the durable cake recipes (in the recipe forum). There's a white one and a chocolate one.
