Wanting a tall tier and have 2" pans...if I bake 3 layers and want to stack them into 1 tier for the "tall factor", would I need to put a cake board in the middle of that tier for support? Or, would it hold up without it? I am icing the cake in b/c....thanks for any help!
I have done this several times. Through trial and error, I have learned to build a nice dam so the filling doesn't squish out but other than that, it held up just fine.
no, you don,t use a board to seperate the layers.. lots of people make tall tiers using 3 layers.. 3 layers.. icing between each layer.. or.. make a dam ..use filling.. some people use a little icing.. little filling. just what ever you like. one cake board .. 3 layers.. makes tall tier.. hth
My three tier beach cake, has two layers per tier and that was about 5 inch tiers....I used board between each tier only...
I make 3 layer cakes all of the time. You don't need a board within a layer unless you're doing something crazy big, like the double barrels.
