Pull Apart Cake

My friend asked me to do a "pull apart" cake. Where the cake is actually cupcakes, but the frosting is one big piece of "frosting." Can someone help me with how to do the frosting part of it?? I'm not sure how to make it look like one piece.

You'll want to butt your cuppies as close as possible to each other and stagger each row. Also it will probably be easier to ice if you put a small dab of icing under each cc so it stays put for you as you ice it. I'll see if I can find a pic or a tutorial for you that will explain it better.

I did one of these a couple of days ago for the first time. I find them exceedingly strange.
