BUT for years, I filled up cart after cart of mix at the grocery store. I couldn't take it anymore. We are doctoring the commercial mix to beat the band, and it is just not as good.

SO HERE IS MY QUESTION/PLEA TO YOU!

How are you guys getting these mixes in bulk??
I know Pilsbury will only distribute to groc/walmart stores. I have tried at 5 different local grocery stores and Walmarts to order thru them. It's like a freaking circus;
they forget to place my order, they are not allowed to use the quantity key, so they undo the cases to ring up each of the 250 boxes individually, etc, all the while, everyone in the store pummels me with questions about why I have so much cake mix.

My customers don't know they are in love with cake mix. But they are. And some have noticed the difference, and I certainly do.

What now, I'm at the end of my rope!

I'm sorry if this is a silly question, but are you using the commercial mix made by Pillsbury or another brand?

Having to open each case is ridiculous! I've ordered cases of cake mixes from my walmart. I grab one cake mix from the shelf, hand it to my cashier and tell her, I have 48 in the cart, plus this one. I can't remember if she hit the repeat key or if she just scanned that one box 49 times, but we did NOT have to open every case. That is bull.

I prefer the Pillsbury too. i just got done teaching a cake class and made some additions to the lessons that was already in the course line. i decided i wanted the kids to see the difference between how each mix baked up and how they baked differently from oven to oven (the latter came by the chance that very day a student came in with a half burnt half unbaked cake) but i digress. anywho the brand i found worked best in m own personal opinion was the blue box yup Pillsbury did very well time and time again with only one failure and that was due to the pan i think.

for a while i had decided to try betty crocker and bake with that,it was fine, i liked the variety of flavors our store offered but once i went back to Pillsbury i was so happy with the results.

i too have the same exact problem- I can get the pillsbury just add water and oil in bulk, but it is terrible when doctored! I just buy the entire shelf every time I go to the store- I keep wondering if any of my customers will see me! I love when I go to the checkout line and the cashier says "are you making a cake?"

hee hee hee.... isn't there a Bill Engvall comedy thing when he's putting skis on his SVU his neighbor asks if he's going skiing and he tells them that "its in case the car flips so he can slide down the hill...." Here's your sign!!

the cake mix dawn makes...the one that adds oil...is really good, have you tried that brand?

it comes in 50 pound bags...but it's not really any cheaper tho.

I didn't realize some Wal-Mart stores will order cases for you. For those that do, did you contact the store manager?

I worked at Walmart for 3 years, and if the dept manager won't help you (sometimes they just tell you no b/c they're overworked and underpaid) ask to speak with the Assistant Manager. They are trained to suck up, and usually you can get what you want if you go straight to them.
I should try this myself, but I always forget. Maybe in the winter in my spare time .
Those websites are nice, but if you look at the price per box- I will NOT pay $2.39 for a box of Pillsbury when I can get it at Wally World for $.88!!!!!!

All the grocery stores by me have pillsbury for $2.89 box. The nearest wmt is $1.19
I just wait until there's a $10/10 and stock up

I order 2 cases a week from Walmart....they kept wondering why the shelf was always cleared out...till they caught me!! They offered to order it for me!! Now Dennis and I are great friends!!

For all the Dream Whip buyers...at Walmart they are discontinuing the 4 packs and going to just 2 at almost the price for 4. I am NOT happy.
I have found that best choice brand works just as well and is a lot cheaper.

Sorry guys I was babbling like a maniac earlier. I just get so stressed when I'm at work, I can't think straight!

What I should have said was, I had been using Pillsbury for years and years. Since I've opened my shop a few years back, business has snowballed, and we were going thru maybe 120 boxes of mix per week on a busy week.
As you can imagine, this was getting annoying to buy, and even by the case, I had problems getting what I needed. I was spending 2-3 hours per week chasing cake mix around.
Soooo, we decided to go with the 50lb bags of no name white, devils food, and red velvet cake mix base from one of my bulk food suppliers which delivers to me weekly.
What a relief, once we finally got it all settled.
But even I know it doesn't taste as good.

And it was crumbling apart, so we've had to use more eggs, more oil, and also pudding mixes.

It's only been about 2 months, and we're wanting our Pillsbury back. But the thought of the "cake mix chase" makes me want to cry!

And lugging it into the cart, onto the belt, into the car, and from the car into the shop...without any customers seeing me, mind you,....



Here was always my favorite, as I'm buying 200 boxes of cake mix:

"So, ya makin a wedding cake or somethin?"

I feel like saying, "yeah, for two THOUSAND guests." Crimeny.

Using the "no-name" may be a simple issue to fix. I know Pillsbury produces a 50 lb bag of cake mix for bakeries. Talk to your supplier about finding it.

Oh and on THAT note, I think I may just start commenting on what's in other people's carts:

Two jugs of cheap wine and a horoscope mini mag......
"Long day, huh?"

Soda, sugar cereal and wonder bread.......
"You weren't planning on feeding this junk to your kids, are you?"

Okay, I won't even go there! But really, mind your own business people! Once I had a lady two customers behind me yelling out to her friend, "Hey Jane! Come over here, you've GOT to see how much cake mix this lady is buying!!" Then she came over and said, I just HAVE to know what all that cake mix is for!!
I told her, " I'm baking cakes."

Honest to God. What the f do you think I'm doing, mixing it into a paste, and building a mud hut?

been trying my first mmf/gumpaste People figurines today WITH a fondant covered rkt chair.. i've made a few mmf figurines but the rest are all firsts for me. its 1 am and i'm Zzzzzzz....... (to be continued)

Pillsbury make a regular mix in 50 lb. bags and then they have their Pillsbury Plus mix, also in 50 lb. bags. If you go to any of the bakery expos Pillsbury has their booth set up with their Plus vs. the competitors brands. The big plus with Plus is you only add water & oil, no cracking open all those eggs! Try that mix & I think you'll be happy again.

Do you guys prefer mix over scratch? Is this due to cost? What about quality of taste?

I am licensed out of my home. Does anyone know of a supplier that would delivery to a home address that might carry the commercial Pillsbury mix?
